And you think fist fighting in, say, football keeps guys in line? Stand by what I said, the policing argument is a weak one.

Beside the fact that comparing fighting in hockey to rare and heavily suspended fighting in baseball, basketball, football or rugby is kind of ridiculous. Fighting is a regular and expected part of the entertainment product in hockey... Works for some folks, puts others off.

First game of the season. We have seen the Flames open up pretty poorly over the years even when they had a good team. Will say though some of these giveaways are pretty brutal.

Jets are going to be a crappy team, didn't take 8 minutes of the season to know it.

Entirely false...it has stopped many many instances where sticks would have been involved otherwise.....nothing will stop anything entirely, but to say fighting in hockey hasnt prevented stick work is just simply untrue.

Not saying I don't believe you but I don't recall any NHLers that went to Europe in 2005 talking about that or coming back with facial injuries.

Maybe you're right beacuse I'm not going to claim I watch euro hockey but I never really hear about major stick incidents resulting in injuries. When I think about all the spearing and stick swinging (eg mcsorley on brashear) I've seen in the NHL I imagine it's gotta happen but I guess I'd have to take your word for it.

Oilers with a commanding lead in alternate captains and bangs on the coach.

No but maybe it curbs it to a degree. I'm not staunch pro-fighting but I think there is a possibility that it does provide an outlet.

Yeah I think it's going to take this team a while to adjust to the Western Conference style of play and it's probably not going to be pretty at times.
