How many other full contact sports do the players carry sticks/weapons though? Also being on skates, hockey players end up with way more velocity than most(or all?) contact sports. Would be pretty easy to start running guys at dangerously high speeds if/when things got heated and there was no other recourse if a team thinks somebody is taking liberties with it's players.
