Damn Overreact much? Everyone needs to relax and get used to it. Burke is sending a message.

Is it really Burke's message to send though?

I don't have a problem with the GM or Coach coming out and calling a spade a spade when it comes to players and them dealing with those players on a daily basis. It already seems to be shaping up to be Burke's show with everybody below him on puppet strings

Sven is talking about being the next face of the franchise.

If he earns that label, fine. Until then no point in talking about it.

So far Burke's assessment is 100% accurate. Sven needs to be knocked down a peg or two.

He is supreme overlord of hockey ops. He can send any message he wants.

I don't have an issue with it. The kid had an okay camp but someone had to do it.

Burke is Feasters boss with a history of running hockey teams. He is the man in charge.

Just seems weird for a guy who just came on board to criticize a player he isn't all that familiar with or had any part drafting.

Could be just me I guess

I'm pretty sure that in the month or so Burke has been with the Flames, he has become more knowledgeable about Baertshi than anyone on this board is. And he's also getting feedback from the coaches and GM. Safe to say it's an informed opinion.

But its a known fact in the NHL that Baertschi is one of our top prospects. He just simply didn't perform like one.

From Friedman's 30 Thoughts today:

http://www.cbc.ca/sports-content/hoc...hls-elite.html

Quote:
22. Brian Burke showed some displeasure with Sven Baertschi for a "lack of commitment." It may seem early, but there's a method to this. Burke, Jay Feaster and Bob Hartley know this is going to be a hard season, but also know it will be critical for young players to compete through it. It's easy to accept losing and develop bad habits. Forget the wins and losses, the Flames need to grow their youth. It's easy for things to slide in tough seasons.

It was underwelming to say the least.
Or the developmental camp in the summer for that matter. He seemed to turn it on for one or two periods there, but college guys and junior players looked better than him for the majority of the time.

For anyone saying that Burke's comments should have been made in private, I have a feeling that similar comments already had been made to Baertschi by others in the organization at the developmental camp and in Penticton. Maybe the private conversations didn't get the desired effect, so they decided to see if having these things said publicly could light a fire under him.

Who knows if it will work, but I don't have any problem with the strategy.

I think the message is to the whole team, Sven got the brunt of it because he seemed to be going threw the motions at camp and sort of "getting away with it"

Sidenote: If Burke is such a 3 zone watcher can you imagine if Iginla was still here?

You guys know that Burke once traded two 1sts and a 2nd for Phil Kessel, right?

A kick in the butt like this will make Sven better.

If he is as good as he thinks he is, he can show it in 48 hours or so.

If the Flames do this rebuild right in 2015/16 he will have a whole bunch of bad ass early-mid twenty players like himself who are ready to pay back what they took for a couple of lean years. He might even be the captain of them.

But first things first, and it all starts this week.

And they won that trade, what's your point?

I'm not talking about who won the trade, but Kessel is a very one-dimensional, soft player. Burke knew that before he traded for him.

Read the post I quoted.

No, Boston won that trade. The fans in Boston tell me everytime they see Kessel. Also, when can we expect everyone to start calling Sven fat? I think we're just about there.

Then why mention the trade? Kessel really isn't that bad, he's no Bergeron but he's adequate defensively, he's a PPG+ player while being half decent in your own zone, which at 8M is a good deal.

The guy was talking about Burke pulling his hair out watching Iginla play in all 3 zones.

Iginla wasn't a defensive specialist, but was a better 3-zone player than Kessel.

All I was trying to say was Burke has traded for and drafted many one dimensional, offensive hockey players for his hockey teams, but that went over your head. I'm not saying Kessel is bad - he's a top 10 forward in the league, even though he's not good in his own end. I'd be fine with that as a fan.

I understand that thanks, I fail to see where the inclusion of the Kessel trade is relevant to anything, leave the petty comments for HF.
