Six moves to make. My guesses?
-Berra to Abby (no waivers)
-Blair Jones, Derek Smith and Ben Street to Abby (waivers)
-Chris Breen & Cammalleri to IR

Really hope that Burke has a good read on him at this point, because I'm not confident this trade will pay dividends in the long run.

And none of those 4 have made it to the bigs yet- Colburn has. And why does it ESPECIALLY have to do because he has to clear waivers ?? they traded for the guy cause they want to invest in him hence the 4th rounder. As for dividends- it's a 4th for freakin Colburn man- c'mon !

I've got a chance to watch Colborne in the AHL dozens of times. The guy uses his size very very well. He's got good hands and has about average quickness. Acceleration is an issue as is with almost every big player.
I love this trade, I just don't know where he fits in the Flames lineup. Horak or Monahan will be sent down is all I can think about.

next years 4th round pick, even if he pans out, likely isn't playing until 2018. Trade 4th round picks for Knight, Galiardi and Colborne type players every chance you get

Wow, I'm shocked anybody has an issue with this trade... worst case scenario has Colborne not earn a spot and Feaster has to move him for a 5th or worse... that makes this a reasonable gamble... a 6'5" C formerly picked #16 and putting up good numbers in the NHL is worth at least a 4th rounder... so Feaster isn't going to get fleeced here.

in which case the pick would move up less than 20 spots from where its projected to be... not a biggie.

I think Monahan gets his cup of coffee and the Flames assess from there. The Flames can run four C and cycle them through 12 min of EV time each with special teams given to whomever earns it. Hartley has also used a rotation before. It might just be he sits forwards on a rotation. Feaster has already said Monahan's first 9 games might not be the first 9 games of the season.
I also think that there is a good chance Colborne gets put on the wing to start.
I do think this impacts Horak's ability to stay up with the big club. But he might depending on injuries. I also think there will be plenty of call ups throughout the season.

I can't believe it either. For what was given up in the deal, how can you not like this trade. It's a gamble but we'll worth it.
And I don't think Feaster is done with the roster moves either, tomorrow and Monday will be very interesting.

Imagine if we pick up Luke Adams on waivers tomorrow for nothing. This place could very well EXPLODE.

Another great deal for Feaster, the man has been on an absolute tear since the end of last season.

I want Monahan to be sent down now, or after 9 games, either way i think thats the best for him and the team going forward. I just dont see him matching up against the larger skilled centers that he will have to line up against at this point.

Agreed. Ever since the whole ROR thing, Feaster's been doing very very well. Gotta give credit where credit is due.

It should also be mentioned that Colborne comes from an excellent developmental team in the Marlies.

Too many 30 year olds. But these guys are still in their primes so I hope they rack up some good point totals this season and score us another 1st pick or two at the deadline so we can go into this draft as loaded as the last.
Ekblad and a high end RWer would be an exceptional catch.
I'd be thinking about that "franchise" guy in 2015, when that guy named Connor McDavid will be up for grabs.
|
Too many 30 yr olds ? really ? Top age is 31 with Cammy, Mcgrattan, and Jackman. Glencross is 30- is he over the hill too ?? Out team before the Colburn trade was an avg 27.3 years of age- add MacDonald's 33 in there. No successfull team has all the pieces under 30- get a grip man.

Feaster is 3-0 since the offseason began (Russel deal is pretty much a wash until it pans out). And the organization is 4-0 with the addition of Burke.
With Burke basically acting as his advisor, I think the general temperature towards Jay will change quite drastically in the coming season/two. He will gain a lot of valuable knowledge and a better hockey perspective.

I'm on the fence on this subject. He has had a great camp but why rush an 18 year old to the NHL. Let him go dominate the OHL and play in the World Juniors. I know people will be upset if and when he is sent down, but I feel there is no need to rush the kid.
Backlund is a good example, in the fact he was supposed to be an offensive prospect. Well in 170 NHL games he has 23 goals and 39 assists for 62 points. Guys need time to develop into their full potential.

I thought that after drafting him, and still might agree he could use some time in Ottawa, but he's not small. He's claiming to be over 200 pounds now, which would make only David Jones a bigger top 9 forward for the Flames (Edit: oh yeah, and Colborne now ). Gaining 15-20 pounds in a couple months would leave me skeptical normally but watching him in person, I can believe it.
And (not directed at RichKlit) the people bitching about people bitching about this trade seem to be far worse...
