Good, hopefully experienced teams take advantage of him and make them their b!itch.

I put this in the other thread:

That tweet makes it seem that they made the team from stellar pre-season play.

Horvat made the team because Schroeder got hurt and is out for 3 weeks.

Schinkaruk had a pretty good camp, but with Booth injured again, and Kassian suspended, they didn't have much choice.

From what I have watched, I am more surprised he has lasted this long, let alone make the team.

Finally found an update on Elias Lindholm from Rotoworld. I was surprised at the lack of news about a highly touted prospect, but I guess he is in Carolina.

"Elias Lindholm has only played in Carolina's first preseason game because of injury issues.
He has dealt with shoulder and hand injuries, as well as some conditioning issues. "With the amount of time (he's) missed, we have to evaluate whether he can jump in at this level," coach Kirk Muller said. Lindholm didn't skate on Thursday and his status for the Hurricanes' regular-season opener is cloudy at best. Sep 26 - 3:14 PM"

I also noticed Curtis Lazar played last night for the Sens, so he is still with the team. It was his first preseason game. To me it seems like the Sens were just keeping him on the team until he was healthy enough to get a preseason game in, but he was expected to be one of the more NHL-ready players of the 2013 draft.

"Curtis Lazar will suit up in his first exhibition game Thursday in Montreal after suffering a shoulder injury on the first day of training camp.
"I'm pretty excited," Lazar said. "I woke up and it felt like Christmas that's for sure, just getting to the rink. I'm looking forward to it. There's no better place to start for my first NHL pre-season action." He's a long shot to stick with the Ottawa Senators. Sep 26 - 3:48 PM"

I would guess they both get the 9 games (even when Kassian comes back in game 6), neither have looked overmatched at anytime

Shinkaruk has been the bigger surprise because of his size, Horvat has been solid not spectacular

my guess is 1 of them has a good enough start to stick with the team

I really haven't had much of a chance to watch the games this pre-season, but listening to the radio and reading stuff, a lot of people thought Shinkaruk looked like the better player and were more surprised Horvat made the team.

I watched their game last night against the Rangers and Shinkaruk scored a goal in that one. Didn't think Horvat did much offensively in the games I've watched him and based on his preseason performance he didn't deserve to make the team but being a #9 overall pick you give him a couple of NHL games to have a longer look.

I've been surprised by Shinkaruk. I didn't think he would be so physical. Wasn't afraid of rough play at all. He probably should have been a top 15 pick.

Apparently Nichushkin has done so well in camp its getting some pundits on Tsn thinking he's going to make the nine teams that picked ahead of Dallas rue the day.

Not to gloat but I saw this coming. Still jazzed with monahan but if a superstar was what the fanbase needed to digest this rebuild, he's in Dallas..

I still think he will be the best player in this draft year. No offense to MacKinnon,Drouin or Monahan.

I agree with you that Nichushkin is going to be great. But at this stage in the rebuild, he wasn't a good fit for the Flames.

Perhaps if the Flames were 3 years down the line, and their young prospects have become a young core that could support Nichushkin. Otherwise I think he would have floundered as the face of the rebuild and the pressure of being in a Canadian market.

Not to mention the backlash the management staff would take for choosing a flight risk Russian over a Canadian center.

The question marks around him were never about his talent. They are about his willingness to stick around if something goes wrong. He might be the next Kovalchuk...but he might also be the next Kovalchuk.

In the end, he may very well be a better player than Monahan. But Monahan seems like a guy who will be part of our team for a decade or more. Would Nichuskin stick around in a place like Calgary when UFA time came up? The Flames are a team who needed to make sure they got a player for the long-term...the risk was just too high with Nichuskin at this point in time. Our crappy drafting history put us in the position where we couldn't really take the risk.

But yeah, he may be a Calder winner this year.

But let's see who is where in 5-6 years before we decide to gloat.

People come up with all sorts of excuses to jump off that bandwagon and not have to go to games. Just like Im sure they will be back, declaring themselves "diehard" fans, as soon as the team turns things around.

Nichushkin will put fans in the seats for sure, but Monahan is a complete player & a leader. He'll win us games. Glad we got him.

I get that folks are antsy about Russians. And yeah 5-6 years down the road is a better time to say I told you so but as we all know I was a huge advocate of Nichushkin pre draft. I just don't hold the same concerns about what geographical point a player comes from.

Either way the Flames got their guy in the end. Monahan will turn out alright in my books. But dang it. Some malkin esque flash would've been a nice change from the old guard. That nichushkin is going to be special. Ad to that who his line mates and team mates will be for at least the next five years and again, dang.

Dude, no sarcasm at all, that might be the best line I've seen around here in a looooong time. Kudos.

You guys go ahead and believe what you want. Zero games or not, he's had the strongest preseason out of the 2013 class and theres no reason to believe otherwise at this point.

The preseason isn't a reason to believe anything.

Disagree respectfully. People have been going off about all sorts of players this past week. From Monahans strong showing to Svens alleged issues. There is plenty to believe in when it comes to preseason. Especially when it comes to rookies fresh out of the draft and how they fare against full time players.

My belief is that Nichushkin is going to wow a lot of people this year. Just as others may believe that Monahan will stick with the Flames the whole year.
