Why is John Mar breaking into houses? He just gained my vote.

Eviction was set for 12:00am this morning (or 12:01 Saturday I believe).
Police would not be there doing the eviction, it's still a civil matter so she would have to retain a bailiff to have him removed if he didn't vacate.
The police arrested him for the warrant in Quebec.

Ooops my bad! I didn't realize it was set for Saturday morning. You would have to think that the police would notify her upon the arrest at the very least. Lock companies work 24 hour emergency service

That seems like it would be difficult to do.. who do they contact? The owner? Lots of places have owners that would be out of the country and are managed by a management company, or family, or who knows. They wouldn't know of any management company.
And what if the owner is the one to contact but is out of town. Or is sympathetic with the perp and lets him know that the police are coming to arrest him better get out of town.
The only thing I think they can do is lock up after they leave and inform the owner as best they can (leave a message).
She really should have a management company.

This isn't your standard rental dispute though. This is a highly publicized event where lots of media including CPS were already in touch with the owner directly. I am sure it can't be hard to find the owners contact information with about 10 mins of work

You can't go by special cases though, SOP is SOP for a reason.
I'm sure they knew the owner seeing as she'd been (incorrectly) calling them about the situation in the past.
Unless one thinks the cops left the door WIDE open I don't have any problem with the cops contacting an owner after they make an arrest to let them know. The fact a bunch of the guy's associates either had keys or broke I don't think makes a difference... well to the owner it does, but compared to what's already gone on it's a drop in the bucket, and I don't think the cops owe the owner any more than telling them after they arrest a tenant.

Who is to say that these people weren't at the house when we was arrested? The police are there to arrest him, not to evict him.
So what happens now? I assume anyone in the house at 12:01am tonight gets evicted, correct?

I choose to believe that this was the case. Just because that would be hilarious.

This is one of those instances where I would be ok with the owner going a little "Texas" on this issue. I'm not saying she should go in there with a shotgun pointing at peoples heads, but she should go in there with a shotgun pointing at people's heads.
Also, I feel sorry for that kid. I can just imagine the crap he's being fed by his dad.

Wait a minute...Purple shirt, he's clearly been planted there by Cal Wenzel and the Manning Centre in some sort of psychological war against Nenshi for the election.
Nice try Preston and Cal, nice try.

ETA: Oops, missed a bunch of postswhile typing. In short I aghree with burninator...
Original post:
What you are all forgetting is that the guy wan't ordered to be out until Friday night. He was arrested on unrelated charges. Implicitly, the landlord is not allowed to change the locks until the time runs out or he voluntarily gives up possession. In this case he was arrested and removed from the property, but that doesn't mean he might not be back the next morning or have somebody there to remove his stuff. The landlord couldn't take steps to change locks etc. because she may then be in breach of the RTA. Also, if you listened to all of the news coverage, at one point a global reporter went up to the door and a woman's voice was the one spewing the nonsense about recirds in New York and the like. If there were other people in occupancy of the house last night when the police showed up to arrest the original dingbat, they wouldn"t have had any authority to remove thoise others from the house.

Yeah pretty much I'd guess.
EDIT: Current squatters wouldn't be tenants (unless the landlady verbally told the guy his friends could stay there too), but people are allowed to have friends over and stuff.

Would anyone get in trouble for egging the house? Or would it be considered a UN matter?
