DO YYC Naked
I'm surprised there isn't a thread on this. It's happening this coming weekend.
Quote:
For the last weekend in September, many of Calgary’s most intriguing and beloved sites will get naked for Doors Open YYC. For this one weekend, buildings in all quadrants of the city are opening their doors – free of charge – to the public and providing special revealing tours and behind-the-scenes experiences. Whether you’re a geek for history, architecture, the environment, art, sports, science or engineering, this is your chance at an insider’s view of Calgary’s vibrant and dynamic cityscape.

Is anyone going? What sites are you looking forward to?
Unfortunately, I won't get to do any of the tours as I'm running the tours for my site, but a lot of the sites look really interesting.

How do you sign up to some of these events? I can't seem to find anything on the site. Do you just show up?

Not all sites require you to sign up. The ones that require sign up will give you instructions on how to do it.
If you just want to be double sure, give them a call to confirm.

I think the Lougheed House or the Calgary Tower might be interesting. I would probably take a pass on the Shepard Landfill.

Disappointed that the actual YYC (the airport) isn't participating in something called Doors Open YYC.

If my family wasn't camping this weekend, I would definitely be taking my kids to the OBMF one.
I'm kind of disappointed that I have to miss, and my kids would have a blast.

I'd like to go tothe traffic management centre, if only to see why I have to stop at every light westbound on Anderson. Seriously, theres eight lights and every one turns yellow when I get within 100 metres of the intersection.

I was actually at the landfill on Monday and I saw the sign and thought to myself?
"Does anyone really want to see the 'behind the scenes' at the freaking DUMP?"
But then I thought about it some more and how complex and efficient the landfill is and realized that it might actually be pretty freaking cool!
I wonder if they'll let me drive one of the back-hoes or one of the bulldozers?
Also, for the good of public sanity they should end the tour by handing everyone a BB Gun and no one is allowed to leave until they've killed 10 seagulls. Do those stupid birds even understand how far away from the sea they are?

Really interesting! How do they qualify which buildings or sites are 'eligible'? I guess its too late, but for next year I can see one building that would be cool to be added.

You want them to add bungee jumping off the pedestrian bridge?
Hell, you could sell tickets to that!

I know that was a weird post. I'd just rather not say what it is because then it affiliates me with them and I don't know if I want that out on CP. The Saddledome would be cool though.

We're going to the transit thing in the NE on Saturday afternoon. The kids are really excited to see the bus wash for some reason.

Just another poor and over-usage of YYC in this twitter age.

I don't know how they pick the sites. I think some apply for it, and some the board chooses. You should send them a message and tell them there's interest in the site you want.
And the saddledome was actually a site last year. Not sure why it isn't this year.

The bus wash was a highlight from last year. Your kids aren't the only ones excited. Lol.

Given the thread title, I'm surprised not to see the basement of Chicken On The Way on the list.

As someone who used to work for Greyhound, I dont understand the excitement of the buswash...?
We once sent a new guy through the buswash in one of the tanks....they leak. A lot. That was funny, but do the kids get to sit in the bus as it goes through the wash or what? Whats the attraction here?
