Space won't clear up until they are traded. I'd rather see the Flames play these guys, build there value, and trade them for pieces in the rebuild than waste assets clearing space for guys who aren't even ready yet. There's no need to hurry with players like Kanzig, Ferland, etc...

The Flames have plenty of youg guys still on the roster.

We haven't seen the last of any of those three for this season.

Not surprised, although Knight had a better preseason than Horak. Would have loved to see if he could keep up in the regular season.

Makes sense, not much room and they want to at least give a few guys a chance. I could see them also looking at opening up a spot and moving a vet if they really did think someone deserves a shot this year, just wont happen over night if that's what they do intend.

That is surprising Knight has been sent down. A bit disappointing about Reinhart and the other two were pretty much expected.

I really hope that Feaster (Burke) is getting on the phone and starting the trade talks to make room for more youth on the team.

I'm happy Horak, Bouma and Monahan are there. As they rightfully should be based on where I team is going to start this rebuild.

Too bad about Ferland, but he's a completely different player from last year and took some big strides.

I kind of expected Rhino to go down, he was in a battle for a bottom 6 spot, and while he has a great hockey IQ, his physical skills aren't NHL ready yet. Horak's are. Bouma also did a great job in this camp and earned a spot.

Stajan and Backlund look like comfortable players, but its going to be a tough top two lines this year.

I bet the final cuts are as follows;

Chris Breen to Injury Reserve.
Pat Sieloff to AHL
Blair Jones to AHL
Ben Street to AHL
Reto Berra to AHL

Will be interesting if the Flames will make a Waiver claim on Monday.

edit - Sorry, I'm just a little annoyed that they are going with a roster similar to the one we were forced to endure last year.

Similar to last year?

Guys that will be here that werent...

Bouma, Monahan, Galiardi, D. Jones, likely one of Street/B Jones, Kris Russell, SHane O Brien, Ramo, and very possibly Sieloff.

Thats at least 8 new faces....more than 33% of the roster.

What did you want exactly? An entire team of 18 year olds? You want to see that, its available. Its called major junior and Calgary has a team in it.

Not sure why you think that. The Flames are pretty deep at centre. Horak and Monahan beat Reinhart and Knight out simple as that. Performance was the main determiner, I don't see anybody kept because of their contract.

Baertchi, Bouma, Horak, Monahan, Sieloff, Berra and Ramo not to mention Russell and Galiardi in their mid 20's screams re-build

I'd also expect 10+ guys in Abby to get cups of coffee throughout the season

This. They have a lot of one way contracts that they need to get rid of to make room for the kids. Knight and Reinhart will more then likely be seen in Calgary later.

I was afraid that with Knight as the new prize this off season that he was going to get in no matter what and that Horak would get buried. I am glad to see that did not happen.

I am sure that Knight still has an NHL future, but he sounds like he needs some more professional experience first.

Man, the Heat are going to be fun to watch this year. Ward's got his work cut out for him in trying to widdle his roster down now.

My guess is Eddy, Martin, Brossoit to Alaska along with all the Aces invitees.
