Won't disagree about Brodie. I rather him with Gio on top line rather than him playing with scrub players like Butler, Smith, Russell or SOB.
I also don't want to trade prospects or picks. That said the last 3 d- spots are being filled with players that would be lucky to get 40 games in with a good team. I know we are going to lose a lot of games, but with that D there are going to be a lot of nights that the flames are out of it midway through the 2nd period.

There are just too many bodies up front... even on d. It is apparent as everyone seems to be missing key players like Galiardi, Jones, and Glencross (wtf?)
I haven’t really watched much of the preseason but has Monahan actually been good enough to get the 9 games?

No, he has been good enough to get the whole season.

This team will likely roll four lines, so there won't be a true order to them other than whoever is going well will get more time that night.
Brodie-Giordano
Wideman-Russell
SOB-Butler
Extra: Smith
Ramo-Berra
|
I would like to amend my list after tonight's action:
Glencross-Stajan-Stempniak
Cammalleri-Backlund-Hudler
Baertschi-Monahan-Jones
Bouma-Knight-Galiardi
Extras: McGrattan, Ferland
Brodie-Giordano
Wideman-Russell
SOB-Sieloff
Extra: Butler
Ramo-MacDonald

This is almost identical to what I would have, down to the line combos.
I'd like to see Ramo/Berra by the end of the season (Reto may need some time in Abbotsford to adjust to the NHL sized rinks more).
Also I think Sieloff goes down to start the season, but he probably finishes the year here. I think Horak deserves to be an NHLer now, and Ferland may be better playing for the Heat instead of sitting here.
In an ideal world, we unload Jackman and one of, if not both of, Butler and Smith.

I agree other than it would be a waste to have Ferland in the pressbox. He needs to play, so send him down and let Jackman eat popcorn all year. If there is an injury to a winger and he can be called up on time he can take the spot before Jackman.
Also we need to trade for another D-man. Butler should not be on the ice even if there is an injury and SOB should not be playing 82 games.

I've said all summer I expect 3 #2 lines and a 3/4 line.
Cammaleri - Stajan - Stempniak
Showcased + past chemistry, and the best NHL experiance. Defacto #1 group
Baertschi - Backlund - Jones
B&B should get the opportunity to step up and lead the team on ice, if they don't I think they will be passed by Monahan/Proir... as the future. Jones should add some needed size and jam to this line. Baertschi looked like a bit of a set-up man at the end of last season, playing with a guy who has scored in the NHL before could be good.
Glencross - Monahan - Hudler
Putting vets with an 18 year old center seems logical. I think this is a line that could play against other teams top lines, and control the tempo at times. Glencross and Monahan should also be able to open space up for Hudler to move with the puck.
Galiardi - Horak - Jackman
The 4th Line is a bit of a crap shoot but I think this group fits the team youthful direction the best, while still giving Hartley the chance to role 4 lines
Brodie - Wideman
Wideman is the best righty we have, see next pair for why I put Brodie here
Giordano - Russel
Russel is clearly our #4, but will need a guy like Gio with him, to learn how to play against top NHL forwards.
Seiloff - SOB
This addresses one of the biggest problems with our d core last year. Finally guys who will just be unkind to the other team, when the puck is deep in our zone.
Ramo
Berra
I would send Joey Mac Down, and give Berra a game or two at the NHL level before sending him to the A. So that while learning the North American game, he understands what the highest level is really like.
If Mac gets picked up on waivers, the worst thing that happens is Ortio, Berra, and Brossoit are rewarded with platooning to the NHL.
Press Box
Bouma, McGrattan, Butler.
I think Smith gets waived and sent down, because Feaster still believes that Butler is an asset that holds some value on the market.
Hopefully Knight plays well enough to take the job from Monahan after 9 games.

Glencross - Backlund - Cammalleri
Baertschi - Monahan - Hudler
Galliardi - Stajan - Stempniak
Bouma (/Ferland?) - Horak - McGrattan
Rotate in: Jones, Jackman
Giordano - Wideman
Brodie - Russel
Smith - O'Brien
Extra: Butler
Stajan and Galliardi are interchangeable positionally. Jones will get regular time in the lineup as there will no doubt be injuries, and probably right off the bat. Already two main guys out right now and we're not even into regular season play..
Horak has earned his place here with steady and smart two-way play. Should be here, though I don't know if he will be.
Giving an outside chance to Ferland to make the team on the 4th line. One of Bouma/Horak would have to be sent down for this to happen, though.

Stajan and David Jones are not interchangeable positionally as Stajan's a C and Jones is RW and has never played centre. Galiardi and Stajan however are interchangeable as they are both centres.

Calgary Flames:
Mike Cammalleri --- Matt Stajan --- Lee Stempniak
Curtis Glencross --- Mikael Backlund --- Jiri Hudler
Sven Baertschi --- Sean Monahan --- David Jones
Lance Bouma --- T.J. Galiardi --- Tim Jackman
Roman Horak, Brian McGrattan
T.J. Brodie --- Mark Giordano
Dennis Wideman --- Kris Russell
Shane O'Brien --- Chris Butler
Derek Smith
Karri Ramo --- Joey MacDonald
Abbotsford Heat:
Paul Byron --- Corban Knight --- Ben Street
Michael Ferland --- Markus Granlund --- Ben Hanowski
Carter Bancks --- Max Reinhart --- Greg Nemisz
Turner Elson --- Josh Jooris --- Steve Begin
Brett Olson, David Eddy etc
Chris Breen --- Chad Billins
Patrick Sieloff --- John Ramage
Tyler Wotherspoon --- Mark Cundari
James Martin, Brady Lamb etc
Reto Berra --- Joni Ortio
That Heat lineup looks fantastic (especially on the blueline ... all six could see some time with the Flames this year), they should go far this year. Unless they get depleted because of callups after the deadline, of course ... could very well happen.

I think Horak is a bit overrated and believe that Knight even though he hasn't blown anyone away has still been better than him, but Knight's got the added skill of being awesome in the dot.

I agree with the lineup, except Berra to the AHL to start down there.
Horak will be the guy called up if they decide Monohan goes back to the OHL, which looks less likely every day
