Monahan has such a deceptive shot.

Monahan belongs. Here to stay whole season IMO.

Yes I know that. I accept that. But when Johnson says 'scored 3 goals in his first 5 games, didn't score until his 13th game last year, only scored 3 goals last season' he should probably mention that he closed out the year on an 8 game point streak after the Flames traded everyone. Probably me being nitpicky, but whatever.

EDIT: Pierre would've brought it up. For sure.

Solid period. No glaring mistakes, probably had the higher quality chances.

It's pretty amazing that you could argue, of all the picks of the 2013 draft, Monahan looks like the best hockey player right now. Only other player I'd say that looks this good is Ristolainen.

Can't dump and chase vs Smith, just ends up as a turnover...

Pretty meh period. Couple nice flashes from Sven and Monahan looked solid, but pretty boring overall. Looked like two teams playing not to lose to me.

Brutal period but to be expected especially with the Coyotes in town. Perplexing in that Monahan doesn't look out of place at all but why would you want him to be part of the mess that is the 2013/14 Calgary Flames? Sven wasn't good in the first half of the period but played better in the 2nd half and seems to have a bit of chemistry with Knight. Not much else to get out of that period.

What we have here is a case of the shine coming off the toy that isn't brand new.
What I'm concerned about is the fans adopting the Iginla Syndrome with him, where he doesn't have to show up for the first six or eight weeks of the season and the fans are okay with that just because of the hype built up around him. He hasn't played a full season yet and people are making excuses for his lack of intensity. He's supposed to become this dominant player, well I'd to see some of that at some point, even at a development camp.

Both Monahan and Elias Lindhold picked 5th by Carolina have a shot at being the best players to come out of this draft. Monahan was a one guy team last year, especially in the forward ranks for the 67's.

We have a real gem here in Monahan.

We've seen glimpses of that, you seem to be picking and choosing where you want to see those glimpses.

I'm convinced about Monahan. He's definitely staying the whole season. I'd go so far as to say he was our best forward in that period.

If he's this convincing now, who knows how good he could be in a couple of months. Keep him here and let him play in the WJC.

I feel sorry for the players on the bubble right now and getting a chance for the last time to show what they can do. They are playing a boring team Phoenix. Berra hasn't face a lot of shots and the Flames forward doesn't get a lot of shot the way Phoenix play. 1st period is boring as he44. I hope to see a more open 2nd & 3rd period. I want to see how good Reto Berra is and so as Corban Knight, Monahan and others.

Any tech savy person able to post a comparison of Shane Doan laughing when he said "thanks a lot, Gord" and 1960s Patches O'houlihan laughing and saying "its a two player swing". Instantly what came to my mind

I heard D Seth Jones is doing well in Nashville and might start in the NHL.

Oh yeah, he's obviously in the mix. I was just talking about the two guys who weren't in that "top four" at the draft this summer.

Mackinnon will become the best player from this draft, but Monahan has been damn good.
