No, I haven't seen them. Just read articles and threads that have said those guys haven't impressed as much as everyone hoped. I guess it's not fair for me to say that without actually seeing them play... I'm just going from what others are saying.

I guess I just haven't seen those articles. To me it has sounded like a great draft year. Can't recall any team or their fans sounding disappointed.

Too much is being expected from these 18 year old kids. Just because the Oilers and a handful of other bad teams have made a habit of bringing up their newly drafted players right after the draft doesn't mean it's the normal or even right thing to do.

Not yet, its still too early for disappointment. Read the article below though, quite a different tone than was shown towards Drouin before. Some people had him pegged as a Calder favorite alongside Stamkos and St Louis, now he might not even be on the team.

I don't know about the tone. Different teams have different immediate needs and different approaches. As far as I understand, Drouin is still the most skilled forward in the draft no matter where he plays this season.

I'm surprised about Droiun, does it have to do with his size and physical ability? Maybe he isn't physically ready yet.

As an aside, with players from Jankowski's draft year and around his number having impressive camps, can't wait to finally be able to compare him to his peers - sometime in the future.

Frankly I doubt you've read those comments about Nurse as he has shown why he was selected 7th overall. He had been very impressive if not exceeding expectations in preseason games. As an aside, veteran winger Ryan Jones was placed on waivers by the Oilers.

I think we knew going into the draft that Nurse represented one of the first drop off points in terms of prospects from the NHL ready ones to the ones that need time to develop.

From what I saw and read, he's probably about 3 years away from an NHL spot in terms of having the tools but needing his body and his maturity catch up to it.

Nurse has had some bad moments early on but has progressed very well during camp. As he fills out he should be a beast, and he has showed why he was drafted so high. Anything can happen but I'm glad they took him. He's shown some offensive flair.

It's rare for any player to jump right from junior to the NHL, and just anecdotally, it seems even more rare for defenseman.

I still think they made a good pick.

In the comment I think is being referenced Nurse was not mentioned.

To be fair Nurse has looked good it is easy to spot real potential with him. Edmonhole is being wise sending him back to the OHL though if the rules allowed it i think he would be capable in the AHL etc.

Considering Mackinnon, Barkov and Lindholm have all been nursing injuries during the pre-season it's really hard to say how well any of them have looked. Jones is reportedly doing well, and will probably make the team out of camp. Drouin was put at center at the start of camp and reportedly struggled somewhat, but is looking better now that he's been moved back to wing. Nichushkin looks like he'll make the Dallas roster out of camp as well.

As far as Nurse everything I've read and seen says he actually looks further along developmentally than originally thought (many thought it would be 3-4 yrs before we saw him in the NHL, now many think it will only be 2-3), but is still very raw. I know I'm supposed to hate the kid now that he's an Oiler, but I have to admit I think he's going to be a pretty good defenseman eventually.

He definitely should be going back to junior. But Nurse was a solid pick and has looked good.

I'm really glad that we fell to #6 and were "stuck" selecting Monahan

I think the real reason he's being sent back is to allow him to grow into his frame. 6'3" and 170lbs I think I heard.

I believe that's an accurate assessment, it isn't because of suspect play.

From what I saw of Nurse in Penticton, the guy is a few years away, but does have the foundation to be a solid NHL dman. The skills and hockey sense are there, he's just tall and gangly, so probably needs a couple years to fill in.
