Kessel said "Hey you big fat chicken! Try and catch me! You big dumb oaf! I double dog dare you to punch me!" And then skated away and started slashing him when Scott engaged.
I mean, that's equally valid and likely to any of your assumptions on the situation, based on a TSN clip running a few moments.
I bet he even called him a girly man.
I bet they actually discussed global politics, particularly the situation in Syria, and did it in Swahili.
See the difference is that one of us has a version that falls into the general realm of what you'd expect from being around hockey. It may not be precise, but it's likely something of that sort. It's also supported by statements made after the game. The other is your version.

One of us is actually making grand assumptions based on terribly limited information based on one side of the story while ignoring the other side, and the other one is pulling a Kessel and prodding the goon into continuously engaging.
As mentioned, Scott's intent is painfully obvious. Hockey players don't drop their gloves and stick and start grabbing at and chasing a guy because they are looking to make new friends. If you think Scott's intent was anything other than to beat the stuffing out of Kessel then you are kidding yourself.
I guess I'm kidding myself.
I believe if he wanted to beat the tar out of him, he would've. IMO he just wanted to rough him up a bit and send a message to the Leafs.
If John Scott really wanted to lay a beating on Kessel, he would have, no Leaf on the ice could have stopped that.

He's not Goliath, Scott was still going after Kessel when other players engaged him, if they don't step in you seriously think Scott was just going to give him a noogie?

You're the goon.
I can't figure out who the first person is. Grand assumptions? I don't see any. You think maybe they were talking in Arabic and not Swahili? I guess that makes sense given the subject matter.
As for the rest of it, I'll put it to you like this. If we had to present out cases on which version was more likely to a jury of 10 people I'd wager my salary on the majority, if not all of them, siding with my version. It has a basis, whereas yours is 'we don't know, it could be anything'.

He could have popped him right away with a shot or two before anyone got in there. It's not like he was set on pummeling him and a couple of Leafs came to save the day. I don't think Scott ever intended to destroy Kessel at all, just put some fear into him and the rest of the Leafs.

I have played hockey for 26 years and never have I tried to put some fear into the other team by "roughing up" up the smallest guy I could find on the ice.
Give your head a shake.
If you want to send a message you don't send it to the tiny punk on the other team you send it to the biggest guy they have on the ice.
Bottom Line Scott looked like a complete meat head and Kessel looked like a complete sissy, both of which we already knew so nothing has changed.

Without taking into consideration that it's not just a 'tiny punk' but the best offensive player on the other side.
Is everyone else blind to the fact that Kessel started the PHYSICAL part of the altercation? Scott's gloves didn't drop until after Kessel reached out/provoked/basically challenged him?

You actually believe that little move by Kessel provoked a reaction from Scott don't you? You should probably look into what's in that powder, it's making you crazy.

Did you watch the video?
Coles Notes:
Scott Obviously says something to Kessel
Kessel says something to Scott
The line up Scott pushes Kessels Stick forward and Kessel Turns to Scott.
Now this is where you should watch the video, Kessel BARELY makes contact with Scott shoulder and Scott drops his gloves and goes crazy after Kessel. Scott was already in motion to go after Kessel as Kessel raised his arms.
To Illustrate this I will show some screen Caps with time frames to give you an example.
This is at the 26.1 Second Mark of the video, Kessel is raising his hand to most likely push Scott.
This is at the 26.7 Second Mark of the video, Scott already has a hand on Kessel as Kessel has just made contact with Scott, check his right hand, His glove is already coming off.
I must be honest, Scott has amazing reaction time to have reacted to the Kessel Touch at 26.4 with a reach and contact on Kessel at the 26.7 second mark.........
wow. Kessel's stick is now as sharp as a skate blade! hahaha
He could possibly slice a puck in half!!
I... never said that. It was an example of a freak accident and #### hitting the fan. Kessel's ankle slashes were very reckless and could of been much, much worse. There's a reason he got tossed for doing it
Kessel should of just turtled and waited the 3 seconds for his teammates to help him instead of slashing

Watch it in slow-mo...Scott has both hands on his stick and is looking at the face-off dot until Kessel's glove touches him...he has pretty lightning quick glove removal skills though.
We'll never know what Scott was going to do if left unprovoked...I'm guessing a nasty gloves on punch or cross-check, but he didn't appear poised to chuck his gloves and start pummelling.

We are seeing the same clip, but drawing different conclusions.
Regardless of what he says to Kessel (which was probably intended to provoke, which seems to have worked), I don't think he is dumb enough to grab and start pummelling a totally unwilling participant...Kessel's provocation was invitation enough though IMO...
Again, I think Scott would have given Kessel a lump with his gloves on, and then actually fight on whoever wanted to go...which Kessel did for about 0.3 seconds until his reaction turned from fight to flight!
In what amounts to an incredible range of comparisons, this incident has been compared with both a case of domestic violence and the 5-second rule regarding a piece of food on the floor.

I never said I agreed with it, so I'm not sure why I need to "give my head a shake". I just said if Scott really wanted to inflict some damage he would have.
