As you know, I bought a Nexus 4 because I havent been too happy with my iPhone 4s. I havent made the switch just yet, but I have listed the 4s for sale on kijiji.

Someone has offered a Galaxy S3 in trade for it, and from what I see, its in equally good shape as mine.

Wondering if it is a fair trade, how resale might be?

I don't understand how a company which was so focused on user experience could screw up and never fix a key piece of software that it's whole infrastructure relies on.

Is there anyone who likes itunes out there

I don't mind it.

I have no need to organize my music, or use some other software to rip a CD.

I don't use it much now that I use both plex and Google music, but it is still there for the occasional use of Apple TV and the wife's iPhone / ipad

I do, at least relative to most of the alternatives for organizing and playing music. It runs well on my 5 year old iMac with a 100GB library, it has an attractive and minimal interface, and it allows me to have a simple but effective whole house audio setup using AirPlay.

It's certainly not without its quirks, but I've never had any major issues. I just set it to not alter my folder structure and make sure my files are properly tagged and I've never really had a hiccup. My only real issue is that it doesn't play FLAC files, but that's a pretty minor inconvenience for me.

I'd also be more inclined to switch to another program if most of the leading alternatives didn't look like they were designed in the '90s:

If you'd be trying to sell the S3, I think you'd be better off not doing the trade and keep trying to sell the 4s. The S3 is a better phone in pretty much every way (IMO), but the Apple brand seems to hold value a lot better for resell purposes

I do but I don't micromanage my music library. I make my playlists and I'm done. What do these other music library programs do to make people all hot and heavy?

Really it is just me being smug. But its only relevant that android had them earlier to the diehard apple people who dismissed them as useless or unecceessary when Android added them and now find them awsome features when Apple adds them. But mostly just me being smug.

Well for one they have the defualt setting to allow you to drag and drop music to and from your device. I haven't used Itunes in a while so maybe they fixed it but having to dig deep into the help files to figure out how to do something as simple as dragging a song to a device truned me off.

Then the auto organization features that didn't warn you they were going to destroy how you organized your music. Them leading the DRM charge also truned me off but that isn't Itunes fault.

I seem to remember that iTunes does actually ask you if you want it to move your files around when you import into iTunes.

EDIT: Actually I'm sure it does, I pointed my iTunes to my music share on my NAS and said no when it asked if I wanted it to move them around; I have multiple apps that point at the same directories of songs.

Probably one of the reasons I haven't had troubles with iTunes is that I'm a stickler for media organization and I make sure the ID3 tags and cover art are all correct. Sure if you just dump an assload of unorganized MP3s that aren't tagged properly into iTunes, or if you rely solely on file naming and folders rather than tagging for organization, then you're going to get disappointing results. But I think that's true for pretty much anything.

We're already seeing a shift away from the file and folder paradigm and more towards an app centric one and that'll only continue with the growth of smartphones and tablets. It was something I initially resisted years ago but now I find it to be a far more efficient and pleasing way to interface with files. For documents or some miscellaneous stuff I still prefer to deal with the actual files and folders, but when it comes to files that are almost solely consumed (i.e. music, movies, pictures, etc.) I now much prefer to organize and access them through an app (iTunes, Plex/XBMC, and Lightroom/Aperture respectively).

There are definitely things I hate about iTunes but I haven't found anything even remotely close in terms of managing large libraries with full metadata (would love to hear suggestions though). Smart playlists are the ####. When I see services like Rdio (with what must be one of the most expansive databases of listening preference in existence) making me add songs one by one with a three click process, I just shake my head.

That said - I want to punch somebody at Apple for that insane iTunes computer authorization system.

The day of my wedding 3 years ago I was scrambling to download a few last songs for the DJ to play at the reception. Yes, I procrastinate that much. iTunes was refusing my credit card and giving me assorted errors. Everything should have been in order, so I googled the issue and there was a clear consensus that it was just something that happened occasionally, where you'd have to call Apple to get them to reauthorize your account or some such silliness. I obviously didn't have time for that, and this was before the Play Music store, so I went to Amazon music and haven't used iTunes since.

I definitely don't miss it, or its constant desire to install QuickTime player on my PC.

That is damn funny. To be fair, Apple, the company, has nothing to do with that magazine.
