Bottle these good feelings for a rainy day (or season, or era).

So between listening to Maher and posts on this site looks like the young forwards are doing their best to stay with the big club.

Sounds like Ferland, Knight, Monahan, Horak and Bouma had great games. The only name i did not hear much of was Reinhart.

Reinhart played well, had at least 2-3 shots on goal that I can recall.

My takes:

Ramo already looks more comfortable in net then MacDonald in my opinion. He seems to control his rebounds better. He also doesn't lose his net like McD sometimes does.

Monohan is awesome for a 18 year old. I thought his 1 and 3rd periods were his best.

Backlund is awesome, he was always fairly dangerous out there.

Corban Knight is "meh" to me. Nothing too special, no major mistakes. I think he shouldn't be a guranteed spot.

Oh yeah, and Stajan is actually a pretty good hockey player..

Not to rain on any parades, but Chuck Kobasew looked like the 2nd coming in the pre-season about a decade ago ...

I thought all the youngsters played well but no one really exploded in the offensive zone either. Hard to elevate anyone above the rest. There were times when I thought that some of them weren't doing anything noticeable, but they all play solid overall games. Knight was probably the strongest one throughout the game, if I had to pick, although that might be just because I was following him more. Ferland was noticeable towards to end.

Seems to me that there are a bunch of solid older guys who offer the same as Monahan does at this point, so I'm not among the people who think that he'll make it for sure. He's fine but he's also not outplaying the competition.

If he does, I'm going to have to take all of the credit for it. I saw him at a charity even last week and gave him a pep talk.

I know Ferland dropped a lot of weight over the summer...but seeing him skate really drives it home. He certainly seems much more agile on the ice right now. Would like to see him spend a couple months down on the farm and then see where his development is at. As Feaster and co. have mentioned, he really does have a special skillset.

Thought Bouma, Wideman and Ramo had great games tonight too.

Amazing what 9 months a new coach can do for a player and a fanbase, Stajan hit rock bottem under Hitl....urm I mean Sutter and 95% of fans on this board wanted him traded for a box of stick tape.

He's fragile with confidence but he's always been a good hockey player when used properly.

That was an enjoyable hockey game to watch high-tempo and hard working.

I know it's pre-season, but each game has left me with the same feeling: I like the effort, the energy, the way they play, and the way they stick up for each other.

Liked Bouma, and Ramo played well, obviously

He never gave up. I don't think we should be in a rush to move him out of here.

Ferland does have a kind of Hossaesque style, but we'll have to see if that skillset is enough for the NHL. Not sure yet. Preseason is preseason.

Also seemed like the rangers put in a "meh" effort and the flames totally out worked them. 1st and 3rd period were all flames

Agreed, I didn't mean to get ahead of myself. I was just caught off guard as Ferland had a tough development year last season (plus we had all those questions regarding his committment)... it was nice to see a guy today that potentially could be a NHL player down the line. Still will need him to work on his skating but it looks vastly improved versus what he was like in the dub and previous prospect camps.

Monahan is such a smart player - the puck follows him around. I'm usually against keeping kids with the big team at 18 (especially as you lose a year of that ELC) but Monahan is making a case. Will be interesting to see what Feaster and co. do after the 9 game mark.
