I would say that Jon Lord has credibility as a two term alderman, and as a one term MLA with committee experience. If you look at the last election he finished in 5th and spent about 10% of what the winning mayor spent on his campaign.
I'm more then willing to listen to what he said, as I did with Nenshi in the last election

Possibly, but as we've seen over the last few elections especially at provincial elections polls mean nothing.
Its tough for incumbents if there is any kind of credible opposition because they can be attacked on their record.
I have no doubt that Nenshi will ascend to his throne again, I just hope that its a closer race.
I would be surprised if he got 80% of the vote, unless Calgarians don't show up to vote again.

I think one thing is for sure - voter turnout is going to be significantly lower than last time. With Nenshi the juggernaut to dethrone, most people see this race as a formality to extend Nenshi's term rather than a legitimate mayoral race.
I think the more interesting stuff will be the aldermen / councillors this time around. May as well get more familiar with their platforms.

That won't happen, it's probably going to be a cake walk for Nenshi. And that speaks to how municipal elections tend to work then the how popular the Mayor is.

Voter turnout has never been a strong suit in this country.

Jon Lord managed only 0.4% support in 2010. He only received ~1200 more votes than Oscar Fech.

What makes you think the 2010 election wasn't a close race for Nenshi?

Larry Heather is about ten times crazier. Fair warning though, you can't unsee his website.

I just don't like his attitude towards taxpayers. I mean 30%, come on. That $52 million in the grand scheme of things is really probably not a lot but he could have easily given it back as a good gesture to show tha the actually cares about the taxpayers.
So why should I vote for you Nenshi? Tell me something.
|
I'll respond in the next day or two to the question around taxes and the budget. We're working on a blog post that will hopefully explain the reality of the decisions were made over the past three years, what tax revenue went to what and so forth.

Ask your candidates whether they plan to release their list of donors before the election - even though it's only legally required months after. Amongst others, the Mayor released his donor list today.
Here:
http://www.nenshi.ca/campaign_finance
Also includes his thoughts on where campaign finance reform should go (laws are currently controlled by the Province).

Any chance you could give us specific figures, particularly for the highest bracket? Many thanks.

I don't have that data, sorry. If you email the campaign, they might be able to provide that.

I was basically all set to vote for Nenshi...but then he is ready to endorse DCU. That's a pretty major flaw to overlook!

If you live in Ward 12 or 14, you better vote for Serena's Dad! He sounds like a swell guy.

So true. Holy crap, I popped on his site to see what his angle was and geez, that's a whole lot of crazy. I felt bad giving that page a web view.
Anyone know anything about Evan Woolley who is running in Ward 8?
