Default Kassian suspended 5 games for high stick on Gagner. Weise suspended rest of preseason

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 8m VAN's Zack Kassian gets 5 regular season games and rest of pre-season for highsticking Gagner.

Good. It was a very reckless play, keep control of your stick!

5 games for an errant high-stick? Not a huge proponent of judging based on the outcome.

If Kassian gets 5 for accidentally hurting someone with his stick while Kessel gets nothing for intending to injure Scott with his I'll be disappointed.

On the other hand it is an idiot Canuck, so I don't care too much.

I agree with the suspension. It was a nasty high stick. You should be control of your stick 100% of the time. The way he whipped that around, the momentum from that stick to the face was really dangerous. I would say it could have been even worse for Gagner. Imagine if the stick nailed him in the throat.

Reckless, stupid, deserving of punishment, but accidental. I think anyone arguing it was deliberate would have to have the onus on them to show it...

not saying he meant to hit him in the head, but he wasn't holding back on swinging his stick around.

Either you are, or you're saying it was an accidental high-stick and arguing semantics.

I don't see the intent, I doubt it was a deliberate smack across the face. That doesn't mean it wasn't reckless and a stupid play. But Kessel deserves, in my opinion, a much greater punishment for actually using his stick as a weapon in an altercation. Of course he wont, and I think that's a joke.

Reckless play and deserves a suspension.

Maybe it has something to do with the result of his behavior. Gagner gone for 4-6 weeks.

Doesn't that factor into it?

you cant swing your stick like that, especially when it hurts someone. kessels was garbage too but he is a star player who was jumped.

Apparently Kassian's suspension may mean Shinkaruk makes the Canuck's opening day roster

Deserved. You have to be in control of your stick. Whether he meant to do it or not is irrelevant.

Good news because he isn't ready for the NHL. Especially not in a bottom 6 role.

I'm pretty sure that was more than just losing control of his stick. Looked to me like he swung at his chest and missed. The stick whipped around way too fast to just be an accident.

If Kassian gets 5 for his bonehead play, it gives me hope that Kessell will get 10.

I'm sure this has been said 1 million times in this forum but I just have to chime in how much I hate the Canucks. Which is a lot. I can't really express it properly.

I'm new to the forum, and I haven't expressed that yet, and damn did it feel good.

Sorry to go off topic....please resume regular programming

The only crappy part of this is that Kassian takes stupid penalties at the worse possible times so this actually helps the Canucks.

That's it? Just pre-season games? He targeted the head, he should get as much as Kassian, IMO.

I think this pretty much sums up how the fans felt about the high-stick
