Not surprised. Will talk to our office's Rogers contact. Blackberry deserves to fail, talk about a Harvard Biz School case study on how to run an industry leader into the ground.

Stock is up 6% today.
For those that didn't read the article, they sold 5 million of the iPhone 5 the first weekend. 4 million of the 4S the first weekend.
Selling 9 million the first weekend of the 5C and 5S is nothing to sneeze at. Especially since they sold out of the 5S. If they had enough supply they would have sold more. I know I'm holding off for a bit since I don't do lines.

Would they have? I know a couple of people who bought the 5s because they heard it was going to sell out. I'm just wondering if there was no urgency if that could have affected sales a bit.
Much like how with new video game consoles; by not having enough stock they create that sense of urgency. (Also why I happen to own a Wii.)

Wow, that's higher than I would have thought. Sounds like the 5S alone was close to 7.5 million. Which would make sense, the people lining up aren't going for the lower cost option most likely.
Anyhow, if the hate crowd can't get the "Apple is doomed" low sales numbers they want I assume the hate will turn towards trying to mock "people for being sheep" and putting up such a large sales number.

"Spies" seems a little much. Interesting though.

The Korean electronics giant may use ads to mock fanboys waiting for the iPhone, but that doesn't mean it's not curious about why Apple buyers will sit in line for eons for the device.
You can't have an ad campaign mocking people waiting in line for the iPhone and then wish you had the same lines. Or can you?
Apparently Samsung thinks it can.
In the case of the iPhone launch Friday, however, Samsung kept its presence pretty clandestine. It didn't hand out fliers or post advertising or display anything identifying itself as Samsung. It didn't even talk to anyone in line. Rather, a Korean video and photography crew documented the scene and interviewed reporters to figure out why Apple has such a rabid following.

I don't think anyone could know for sure.
I know of 4 people who are on a wait list for the 5S. That 9 million number they announced doesn't include anyone on that list so it would be significantly higher if they were sold phones instead.

You'd have to count all the people that were turned away just over the weekend or saw the crowds and didn't bother for a little while. There are a few even just in this thread; I'd have to imagine that there would be a material number.
It's not like they aren't going to sell more in the next month and into the holiday season. The fact that they hit China right on Day 1 can't hurt them either.

It's probably pretty hard to get an accurate number, but what might be considered is how many people would have bought a 5s in the last three days if they simply could have walked in with out a lineup and purchased, with no supply shortages?
It gets complex, because if there weren't supply shortages, people would be less willing to go and get one NOW.
Anyway, one of our guys is complaining about his phone (I think a 4s) not working very well, and I'm tasked to get him a new phone. Are 5s's sold out everywhere? Do I even consider getting a 5c for jobsite abuses? Or would the 5C be more durable because it's made of plastic? I'm assuming I could go and get a 5C rather easily?

Apple.ca says shipped in 24 hours as opposed to October for the 5S so I would assume so.

For those curious about opening weekend numbers:
4S - 4 million
5 - 5 million
5C, 5S - 9 million
Sounds like the S outsold the C by approximately 3.5 to 1. Source --> http://www.theverge.com/2013/9/23/47...-sales-figures
The numbers aren't exactly scientific as China is in the equation now, but impressive to say the least.

So maybe one guy?
I think Bertuzzied owns Apple stock though, so I don't think he was. He's just being his usual grating self.
