Well it looks like the Government of Manitoba may be giving serious consideration to renaming parts of the Winnipeg Ring Road (Perimeter Highway), in honor of Terry Fox:

"The movement to rename the Perimeter Highway after Terry Fox is gaining traction.

The highway falls under Provincial jurisdiction and Premier Greg Selinger tells CJOB, he likes the idea.

“His petition will be very seriously considered and I don’t think it’s unreasonable at all to name something after him including a chunk of the perimeter highway. What the heck, I think that’s a very reasonable thing. Terry Fox was a guy we all remember, right?’

Selinger calls Fox a game-changer and says we’ve all benefited from the money his legacy has raised for cancer research."

Considering he was born there I would say this was overdue.

One thing that's always kind of bothered me, early in his run a CBC camera man covering him died in Nova Scotia after falling off the top of a CBC van in an accident but there's never even a mention about it. not so sure the family is too happy about Terry Fox Day

Not sure where you heard a CBC cameraman died, but it is false. Here is the real story from CBC archives:

"The CBC crew involved in the crash were cameraman Gary Embret, soundman Gordie MacNeil and John Lewandowski, who was driving the Chevy Suburban. Embret was leaning out the window when they were hit by a fish truck; the camera was ripped from his hands and he received facial cuts from the viewfinder. MacNeil, who was in the back of the truck by the spare tire, was thrown onto the road and suffered a compression fracture in his back that kept him off work for six months.

Terry and driver Doug Alward went to visit the men in hospital. "It was a great relief to find out they were going to be okay," he said. "I couldn't run any more after that. I was so shaken up."

We just did the Terry Fox Run last weekend in Kanata (west Ottawa). It was on the Terry Fox Trail and crossed Terry Fox Drive. Along Terry Fox Drive is Terry Fox Place Mall and Terry Fox bus station.

My goal is to have the powers that be name something after Terry Fox, considering Winnipeg is the place he was born, and lived until he was 8 years old. It's bizarre that there is nothing named after Terry Fox, in his birth city.
