Default Wedding Car Beg/Borrow/Steal/Rent

Well my friends, the day is fast approaching and I need some help.

We would like a car for our wedding, something nice or special. I personally would like a nice classic but even a luxury rental car isnt out of the question.

Basically, it has to be able to fit the bride with her dress on in it, be in good shape and clean.

I looked into renting a Cadillac Escalade, but while they advertise its availability they dont show where you can actually get one.

Like I said, I'd rather drive a nicely restored classic or something. So I turn to you oh great CP.

- Where can I rent something nice?
- Does anyone have a nice car I can beg/borrow/steal/rent?
- Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations? Surely I cant be the first person to do this.

Surely one of the 100K'ers on this board has one of these they can lend you. Shouldn't be too hard to find someone either, there's tons of them.

Unfortunately I cannot help you finding a car.

However, I just went through a similar experience. If I could offer a word of advice, if/when you get your wedding car, have someone else drive it.

The day of your wedding your head will be going a million miles a minute. Your thoughts will be on pictures, your bride, how well the ceremony went, what you have left to do and what is left to be done that is in the hands of others.

Perhaps my day was a bit abnormal as we had some MAJOR issues arise the day before, and they were playing on my mind.

Not having to drive is one thing off your mind, and you can leave it in the hands of someone else.

Good luck finding a car, but don't be afraid to ask a parent or groomsman to drive for you.

Its a very good point. You know, someone mentioned asking a friend to lend their car but they're very protective of it.

I am car guy, I understand. If someone has a restored classic they're willing to lend I'm really flexible. I'll promise not to decorate it with any 'Just Married' crap or the flowers and if you want to drive/chauffeur we'll also feed you at the reception and throw in some cash.

If you're looking at renting a luxury car, just be aware that it is standard at most rental car companies to not guarantee make or model or colour for that matter of vehicle. Now with that being said, if you want to go that route, I would recommend making your reservation directly with the branch and speak to the branch manager if possible. Most are willing to help you out when its a car for a wedding (at least I was when I was in the industry). Special requests have a tendency to get ####ed up when you just phone the reservation line, and make sure to book at least a month in advance.

Hiring Policy

As owners of interesting, old, and sometimes rare and expensive cars, we as members of the VSCCC are often asked about hiring out our cars. We have been asked if we would be willing to lend, rent, hire or drive our cars for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions.

The members, as a group, have decided they cannot allow their cars to be lent, hired or otherwise used by other than the owner. This also includes driving their cars carrying passengers willing to pay or donate to the owner or club for the service.

The reason for this is certainly not an unwillingness to show and share their old cars. It is a practicality due to insurance. As vintage, veteran, antique or just old special interest vehicles, they are insured under special provisions. These include limited annual mileage, for use in exhibitions, parades, club activities, and occasional personal outings, and not for hire.

For these reasons, members are not willing to jeopardize their special insurance privileges by using their cars for purposes other than specified above. We regret disappointing anyone hoping to have a special vintage car for their special occasion, but trust you understand our members' position.

We suggest you try the "Limousine Service" section of your Yellow Pages.

A-Class Limousine is one example that we have found on the internet.

Problem is that right on the page you linked to it says that their hiring policy is not to do what Locke is looking for due to insurance issues...

Start getting really interested in nice new cars from a dealership, then as it gets closer to the day start feeling out about a 24 hour test drive.

Yeah, thanks. I know thats a pretty common standard of car clubs. Not to mention we're getting married in October when most of the cars are put away.

Be careful if you use a rental agency like Enterprise. My friend asked for a specific car for his wedding (I was to drive it). When we showed up they offered us a 2008 chevy impala. They said it was in the same class. When we mentioned we reserved a specific car, they were flabbergasted and said we couldn't get one. We'd have to drive up to the Airport.

Long story short I drove his dads truck.

My wedding. No car. We had the ceremony on the patio of the reception hall. Didn't think about those classic shots until long after out wedding day.

My advice, horse drawn carriage. Just don't feed the horses Beef-O-reeno

That Rolls looks pretty sweet. I'd go for that if you can swing it.

The Escalade is great if you're marrying a JAP from Jersey.

Find a member of CP that drives a nice vehicle......

Ask if he be your driver for the wedding day.....

Eliminates the worry someone would feel about lending you thier vehicle, plus eliminates a stressor for you.

Win win for both sides
