Agreed. 5C buyers are also probably more likely to want to see and touch the things.

But I think the main reason would be to wait for 5S to go on sale and then report the combined sales, since just reporting 5C is guaranteed to be lower than the 2 million the 5 sold on the first day. So in order to avoid people drawing the wrong conclusions and tanking the stock they report nothing and the stock tanks

I like that the 5C is at least available on lower end plans as my wife got her 16gb 5C from Rogers for $229 and a 2-year 400MB/month plan for $40 per month.

Rumors are less then 50% of the supply that was available at the 5 launch will be available at the 5S launch.

Not surprising as we are seeing no reservations from carriers. Personally I can wait as after three years with my 4 it's not like another month or two will kill me.

For the first time I'm very torn on what phone to get: I have a 4S and do not think the tech jump to 5C is large enough, however, the 5S has not really won me over either.

I read an interesting article on the 5S that states the 64 bit operating is not going to be taken advantage of, due to the backwards capatibility of all 32 bit apps. As well, it is missing key features from competitors such as camera quality and near distance pairing. I'm also not thrilled about having to update all my charge cords.

On the other hand I do love the Iphone and have built quite an apple eco system over the past 4 years.

Decisions, decisions.

Currently a developer has to choose, if they only want to support iOS7 they can compile and submit a combo 32/64 bit version of their app that'll run on any iOS7 device, but not on iOS6. If they want to support previous versions of iOS they have to stay purely 32 bit.

But next month Apple will update (presumably to Xcode) so that developers can release a unified binary that'll support 32 bit or 64 bit if it's available regardless of OS version.

Unless it's something very specific, I doubt the 32->64 bit update would have a significant impact on most apps as far as performance goes, it's just so the OS can efficiently address more than 4GB of RAM. Though I guess bigger registers might make video encoding/decoding faster, so maybe a little benefit.

I doubt that is the case, since there are no phones that have that much RAM and likely won't for the next few years.

64 bit is better for complex calculations involved in graphics processing, which is the big draw here, I think. Also useful for complex crypto etc, but I doubt that is the major reason behind it.

I heard/read that it took a developer a couple hours to migrate his code to 64 bit, so they have made it pretty easy. I don't anticipate any big hurdles for devs on this front.

I guess there was a review embargo up to today? Some that I've seen, I am sure there are/will be more:

Galaxy Note 3 has 3GB of RAM. The jump had to be made at some point.

Yeah, there has to be some reason, maybe the performance impact is greater than we expect.. I'm sure someone will do some various benchmarks.

Agreed, most of the stuff is API calls which is already handled by Apple. Something like VLC player if they've done a ton of work implementing things in their own code rather than using Apple APIs would probably take longer.

AFAIK the app I'm working with now required zero work from a 32/64 bit point of view, the changes due to iOS7 itself were bigger.

Sounds like a matter of time until Apple builds their own processors for all their hardware.

I figured iOS7 would be out already today, looking forward to playing with it once it's released.

Some good reviews. The gist seems to be that the 5S is an improvement on an already good phone (the 5). Is it the best phone out there? Probably not, but Anandtech calls it the best sub 4.5" phone.

So Itunes Radio is essentially Apple's version of Pandora? I assume that car stereo's with apps will be able to run this off your phone like americans can do with Pandora? That's kind of intriguing.

Anyone have an idea of what time ordering will open up tomorrow. It says midnight on Friday, but is that Eastern or pacific?

New version of iTunes is up for download on Apple's site, hasn't hit the update servers yet.
