Thats awesome, mostly because this is the one time I've ever complained about another poster! I can assure you that in my time here I've wasted many, many hours on a whole variety of different topics. Perhaps the funniest thing is that SebC and I are usually on the same side of those many arguments!

This is totally possible, I agree, but it's pretty irksome to see a guy post - for an internet forum, at the very least - reasonably well thought out and well supported views, only to see another guy chirp him from the cheap seats. Well, no, I don't think I WILL ignore him, because a lot of what he's saying makes sense to me, so either explain why it shouldn't or keep your snide remarks to yourself.

Heard that Ben Christensen won't be running this time, in case anyone was waiting for the comedy train to start.
Unless he still tries from jail, that is.

Damn, I was hoping for more comedy gold from him. (Though I did know he'd been sent to jail)

Oh man, Diane Colley Urquhardt or whatever is the worst. Wasn't she one of the aldermans all in bed (not literally) with the home builders caught conspiring a little while ago? She's been our alderman for an eternity and anytime I see or hear a position she supports it's usually a horrible one.
That twitter tweet is just another to the list of reasons she needs to get tossed from ward 13.

According to twitter, she was also asking about the possibility of clawing back OT given to city staff during the flood.
 Not her best evening.

Well she is terrible, there is no question. We just have no one else to vote for though. No one of substance is running...again.
I do wonder what people think of the OT situation though? Should managers on salary be able to claim for OT?

If it's written in their contacts, sure.

I think, for the most part, reasonable OT should not be paid. However, for stuff like the flood, where the OT was likely well beyond reasonable, I don't have a problem with them being paid for that somehow. They probably earned it anyway.

So long as the hours can be accounted for there shouldnt be a reason for clawbacks. However if someone logged 72 hours in a 3 day span, then there might be room for further investigation. Its not just the private centre that has fraud and the City is far from above reproach just because it was during the flood.

As per alderman actions, from her stance on most issues, it does seem that she has her voters interest front and centre. Of course I would love if she would put the Citys interest above her own riding but thats not what democracy is about in this day and age unfortunately.

Her keeping her riding's interests at the forefront is exactly how it is setup and supposed to work. Each riding elects the person to represent their interests at council, and you'd prefer to have a broken democracy where people just tow party lines and support special interest $s?

Many years ago, I used to work for the City and overtime was in the contract, so you expected to get paid for it. Engineers did not receive bonuses in those days. It is not common in the private industry for managers and, especially, senior managers, to be eligible for OT, because they receive performance bonuses for working above and beyond expectations.

Whatever OT compensation is in employees' contracts, they should be eligible to receive it without any questions asked. Then come the personal conscience and ethical considerations from the employees themselves - should they keep it or return/donate it considering the circumstances?
