I don't think the ownership group wanted to trade him at all. Had he agreed to a contract extension, I think he would still be here. Was he asked to waive his no trade clause a couple of seasons ago? I can't imagine that he was even asked, I never heard any rumours about that.

Fast forward to 15-16, or 16-17. If the Flames have a competitive team, do we take Iggy back in the 1-2M range?

The Flames are moving on and the Iginla chapter is over.

He may do the 'sign a one day deal and retire a Flame' route, but I doubt you'll see Jarome in a Flames jersey again until they retire #12.

You, perhaps, mean if he had been asked to waive his NMC.

Provided he can still play decently at the NHL level sure... so long as he's being brought in to be the "right" piece and paid according to his future value provided.

I mean if someone get's the hairbrained idea that a 40yo Iginla is the piece that put's them over the top then no way but if they want him to be a Mark Recchi-esq grizzled vet who can impart wisdom on a young roster while being a positive complementary player on the ice then I would take no issue with it. I wouldn't want him back just for the purpose of having him back but if he can improve the team I see no reason to say no.

My 2nd favorite team now is the Bruins. I will cheer for Iggy anywhere he goes except Toronto or Vancouver.

Sounds reasonable. Supposing he's still playing (and still capable) if and when the time comes, I wouldn't object if Iginla returned to Calgary to play a similar role to Dave Andreychuk on the Lightning in '03-04.

However, I think the odds are long against that. It's likely that this rebuild will not yield a team that can make a run for the Stanley Cup, and if it does, it's likely to take several years longer than Iginla has left in his career.

Yes. The flames could have gotten a package simalir to Buffalo's return for Pominville.

Iginla scored two goals in his B's debut. Watch Jarome's first goal wearing the B.

Iggy will do well with Krejci. Malkin was not a particularly good fit. Iggy had very good chemistry with good 2 way guys like Langkow and Conroy. Finally we will see him with a
top notch all around C. I look forward to his year in Boston

Oy, Oy, Oy!
Guess Pitts should have been smart enough to use him properly.

Nice to see him get 2 goals this night! Let's hope it's Jarome's year.

11 points in 13 was not so bad for a guy adjusting to a new team that plays a very different style.

“It felt good,” Iginla said of his play with his linemates. “We’re all trying to keep it simple. As far as trying to get some down-low plays and some front plays, you try to win a lot of battles, get it back to the point, go to the net, and get some deflections. I got some great looks as far as one-timers and tried to shoot the puck, and not think. For the first game, it felt good all the way around as a group and as a line.”

“Where we lost Horty as far as being a big shooter and a big body on that line, I thought Iggy did a great job of that,” Bruins coach Claude Julien said. “He shot the puck well. He was solid along the walls and made some good plays. It seemed like a seamless transition.”

“And for a first day it felt good all the way around, as a group and as a line. I don’t know how they felt, but I really enjoyed playing with them. Each day I feel a little better. I feel fortunate that I’ve gotten to start with them in training camp. Each day literally we’re working through stuff, talking about where you’d like to go and seeing each other’s tendencies. We’ll keep at it and keep working, but you definitely see why they’ve been a good line for a long time.”

“It’s quite comforting that the chemistry was there in the first game that the three of us played together,” said Lucic. “I still think that it’s something we need to continue to work on it heading into the regular season.Obviously, Jarome’s a great player. He fits our identity and our team quite well. It’s good to have him here.”

Vintage Iggy on that second goal. He's still got it.

Hoping for iginla to light it up this year... He's been my favourite player for a long time. Nothing would make me happier than to see him score 50 goals one more time, win another gold medal (despite the ridiculous snub from team Canada), and get the cup he deserves and was robbed of in 2004. Go iggy!
