Wes Gilbertson ‏@SUNGilbertson 6m According to GM Jay Feaster, Ryan Howse told Flames: 'I don't want to play. My heart's not in it.' His contract has been terminated.

That's unfortunate. I had high hopes for the kid when watching the Chilliwack games.

Wes Gilbertson ‏@SUNGilbertson 18s Another quote from #Flames GM Jay Feaster on Ryan Howse: 'It's incredibly disappointing because of the time that we invested in him.'

Wouldn't be the first prospect this organization has wasted a lot of time on....

So what happens when a contract is terminated exactly? Can the player sign elsewhere? Or is this only allowed I. special circumstances?

OK, wrong word... I think "uncomfortable" might be most fitting.

Pretty standard stuff when terminating a contractual agreement between two parties i would venture.

crazy how things work out sometimes. There were two 50+ goal scorers in the WHL in 2010-11: Tyler Johnson and Ryan Howse. One is undrafted and deemed too small, the other one is a 3rd round pick and at that time one of the most promising prospects of an NHL team. Two years later, the undrafted and small forward has played in the NHL and is the reigning AHL MVP, while the other one wants his contract terminated after 6 goals in 59 AHL contests. Pretty unpredictable how those things play out sometimes ...

I bet there are thousands of undrafted players since Howse was drafted that would pay good money to be in a NHL teams system.

That's too bad. But if you don't want to play, you don't want to play. Best of luck to him in the future.

Wonder what happened to change his attitude...

It is what it is. Hopefully he can find something that his heart is into.

I'd rather he figure it out now than waste more of the team's time money.

Best of luck to him figuring it out in the same world the rest of us live in.

Yeah, so?

If the kid's heart isn't into playing hockey then so be it, he's not into it. It sucks for the Flames but that's it, oh well. I wish the kid the best in life and just because he isn't in love with the idea of playing hockey doesn't mean he has a bad attitude, or an attitude you don't get.

Good luck to him on whatever he chooses to do after this.

I'm just happy for him that he realized that now. There's nothing worse than realizing that you hate what you're doing when you're already doing it or have been doing it for a while. He's still young, he can move forward in life. I wish him the best.

Good luck in your future pursuits, Mr. Howse. I'm sure this decision was not made lightly.

its hard to relate to not liking to play hockey in the NHL when that is the ultimate goal of every hockey player.
Hopefully he never regrets this decision looking back later on in life.
I too wish the kid all the best.
I didn't say the kid had a bad attitude either.
