I dont think Giordano should be captain. Him and Glencross were the two guys that Conroy called out last year for leaving Hanowski in the room by himself, and I remember him quite visibly telling Jokinen to eff off.
Cammalleri is the only option right now.

Did you/do you play organized hockey? What do you mean by hollow?
If it's done properly (ie. the right process, smart coaches and the right player is chosen) this is a very impactful decision on the team's culture and chemistry to the positive. If it's not done properly, this is a very impactful decision on the team's culture and chemistry to the negative and the coaching staff will have to fight to not lose the room right off the bat.
At any level of any competitive sport this is an important decision, IMO.

Should be Glencross, I think Giordano would have made a good captain a few years ago but he had a rough season last year.

Can't go through a full rebuild with no young guys in leadership roles.
Backlund and Brodie need to have A's; one home, one away.

Give Backs an A for sure. He seems like the most committed player on the team.

Never played organized hockey. As an outside observer, it seems pretty meaningless at the NHL level. I would hope such a small decision wouldn't affect a bunch of pros so severely, under these circumstances. And by these circumstances, I mean the former captain being traded away.
I could see stripping the captaincy away from a longstanding, respected captain by a new coach having a damaging effect on the team. But that's not what's happening here. We don't have a captain. We need one. I'm sure the players we have are professional enough to go with whoever is chosen, however they are chosen.

I think that Giordano should be captain, will be captain, and will have a big bounce-back year.

I can understand how Giordano is the popular choice, but I'd rather him get his play together before giving him even more responsibilities as a player.
Leave it open for another year and alternate between Giordano, Glencross and Cammalleri. Swap Backlund for Cammy if the latter is traded.

I wouldn't be surprised if Galiardi ended up with an A.

In a perfect world where the players are actually professionals and fully mature, you are right, there shouldn't need to be a captain. But these guys are just like us. Some are immature, some lack courage. Having the right player with the right qualities will allow non-leaders to play their role effectively and will keep a guy with a lesser work ethic in line.
This is why I think Glencross would be a terrible captain. What kind of message does it send to Baertschi, Monahan, etc. when your captain gets tripped in the offensive zone and before he comes back to help his team out at 50% speed, he cries to the ref about a missed tripping penalty.

Glencross is a terrible choice for Captain. He has a horrible temper, he constantly makes stupid, selfish mistakes which are always bad for the team. He makes me crazy.
Gio lacks consistency and intensity, I think he should get an 'A' but not the C. I have complete confidence that Gio will assume more of a leadership role this season and he'll be ready next year.
Cammi is my choice for Captain. He is a very experienced veteran, he's always feisty, he is a natural leader and he has the kids' respect.
I don't think any of the kids are ready for the role of Captain. There is just a certain mixture and level of maturity that has to exist within the foundation of a leader, the kids will have their chance but they still need the encouragement and leadership, and experience of a strong veteran, imo.
I wouldn't mind seeing Backs having the other A.

I agree with pretty much all all of this. However, I think most assume Cammy will be gone at some point in the next 12 months and would prefer a player that is going to be here for awhile. I LOVE the idea of Bavklund getting an A. Younger guy the new rookies can look up to, get advice, etc.

I really hope that Cammalleri doesn't get traded. I think he will be, but I'd like to see him stay around and wear the C. He seems like a great leader and has been part of a rebuild before, so he knows what he's getting into. And then I'd probably like to see Giordano and Backlund wearing the A's.
But it's most likely going to be:
Giordano - C
Cammalleri - A
Glencross - A

Gio is the only one showing leadership by doing. Glencross wines to much, and Cammy (whom is my desired choice choice) will most definitely get traded (again)!

Captain? CGY should be the first team to nominate a General.
Put a G on Gio.

It's giordano all the way... Never takes a shift off and will go through a wall for his team mates. Cammi and glencross will each have an A
