Default GAME 11 : Hamilton Tiger Cats at CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Game Time : Friday, the 13th @ 7:00pm McMahon Stadium
Televised : TSN & ESPN3

This is the first game of the season between former Stamps Henry Burris' Hamilton Tiger Cats against Calgary Stampeders. Stampeders (8-2) and Hamilton (5-5) are the hottest teams in the CFL right now. Tiger Cats won 4 of their last 5 games and Calgary also won 4 of their last 5 games.

OFFENSE :

QB Bo Levi Mitchell will be the starting QB for the 2nd consecutive games. So far he started 2 games for the Stamps and won both of them. BLM did not have a good passing game last week especially in the first half. Their offense was pretty even with Stamps rushing for 172 yards and passing for 175 yards. RB Jon Cornish won the Canadian Player of Week with his performance against the Eskimos. He carried the ball 14 times for 131 yards and also caught for 46 receiving yards and scored a TD.

Stampeders will start a new receiver against Hamilton. WR Kenny Stafford (6'4") who was a late cut from Montreal in training camp will draw in the lineup to replace WR Greg Carr, who was released. Stafford is a nephew of NFL Hall of Fame receiver Cris Carter and former Toronto Raptors Butch Carter. Coach Hufnagel thinks Stafford can be a threat to help WR Maurice Price.

Looks like FB Rob Cote and OG Dan Federkeil might miss the game due to injury.

DEFENSE :

Calgary's Front Seven are going to be busy chasing QB Henry Burris (won the Offensive Player of the Week) and also preventing him from throwing the balls to the receivers Bakari Grant, Andy Fantuz and rookie Greg Ellingson. RB CJ Gable is also a big threat for Hamilton as he can run the ball and also pretty good in passing situation. Stamps secondary will need to have a good game and not giving Burris an open receiver.

DE Cordarro Law had 6 tackles and sacked Reilly twice last game, while DE Charleston Hughes was also busy with 2 tackles and sacked Reilly twice as well. LB Mayo will probably have the task in stopping CJ Gable all night. Mayo had a huge game last week with 6 tackles and 1 QB sack.

SPECIAL TEAM :

All season long both Kicker Rene Paredes (5 for 5) and Punter Rob Maver are the most consistent special team performers. Retuner Larry Taylor haven't had a good return for the past few games and whenever he does breaks free, the ball goes back because of the holding or illegal block penalties. Special Team coverage are also inconsistent. There are some games that they are unbeatable during the game then one, two or even three times in the game they'll break down and give up a huge return. Stamps ST need to break that habit and be cosistently good the whole game.

************************************************** *****
For Stamps to win this game, they should continue pressuring the QB and not give RB CJ Gable some room to run.

Stamps OLine needs to give QB Bo Levi Mitchell lots of time to throw the ball and of course makes some huge block for RB Jon Cornish.

Stamps secondary needs to play tight man-to-man defense and don't let Burris throw the ball to an open receivers.

GO STAMPS GO!!!

This should be a good game. Henry will come out firing and he has the receiving weapons to do some damage. Stamps will want to work Cornish and control the clock.

He is quietly having one of if not the best years of his career.

I think the Cats give the Stamps fits tonight.

the way our secondary plays especially with all the injuries, i am kind of scared Burris will have a good air game. I think Stamps to depend on their Front 7 again tonight.

I'm still not sold on the Cats defence, and I think Calgary's defence is getting better every week. I expect it to be around 35-20 Stampeders with the home field advantage.

Stamps fans, get out and support your team! It's embarrassingly empty there

Calgary has never drawn well on Friday nights nor against the Ti Cats....add in the weather being so nice you can do anything you like, its siomewhat understandable.

Though I agree....this team should be selling out every game, but there is a weird stigma about the Stamps in Calgary that never used to exist. Its alomst like there is no "face" or "identity" to the team for people to grab onto. That then reflects in attendance...something the Flames ownership guys are going to have to correct.

Stamps need to start pounding Cornish at the D

Burris still has the arm strength and makes it look so effortless.

Secondary really needs to step up, or Burris is going to rack up a huge game.

Burris can still throw a bomb. That was a good throw and also good catch by Grant.
