Default Should speed limits be raised?

I'm not sure how this applies to Alberta but I think this is a great video advocating the need for increases to BC speed limits.

with Canada's main cities being so far apart, I would like to see an autobahn type structure to the highways.

I watched that vid yesterday, additionally I've seen some of the reports from previous years.

There are a ridiculous amount of reasons to support the raise in limits.

I always do about 10-20 over the speed limits; haven't killed anyone yet. The speed limits right now are posted too low. They're generally always 20-30 below the design speed (at least on highways).

Love the little clips they worked in there.

The most dangerous people on Deerfoot are the ones doing 100 in the left lane while the other vehicles are swerving around them on the right.

I'm sure there are some speed limits that should remain in place, but many of them should be raised. Ironically I actually value the yellow signs more than the white ones - anywhere that has a yellow sign typically means you should slow down in order to stay on the road, whereas the white ones are blatantly arbitrary.

Good video, I don't disagree at all - but I could have done without the DB attitude and childish slams towards the police.

So many complaints about ###### drivers in the GMG thread. Do we want to give them less reaction time and give them more momentum?

hell no.......people in this city are flipping so already consumed with being on the phone , putting on makeup, reading the newspaper, having to be first , driving like dooshes, being inconsiderate ass-hats and just generally being all self consumed pricks when getting behind the wheel of their 4 wheel weapon.

Yeah lets raise the speed limit for the pricks with the new driver signs in the back window......and all the mother _____ in the northeast using alias drivers licenses...yeah I said it .....holy ....wow ....people ....

Old time courteous hurtin Albertan here .....remember those days if your close to 50 when people weren't complete dinks behind the wheel.

every day I take my life in my own hands driving for a living when people make horrible fffff'in decisions ....cuz I gotta be first.

Yeah, ask me how I really feel about driving in this city.

Differential speed is a problem so the speed limit shoukd be set on highways at the point that minimizes the gap between 97% of the drivers.

I think we should implement the L and N placards like BC, to avoid people putting up a sheet of paper where they need to be able to see the most.

Between this and the move to change BC's liquor laws, things are finally moving in the right direction in this province.

Only problem is I'll have to buy a faster car and up my booze budget.

Distracted driving could be a symptom of low speed limits. It's easier to multitask when you're travelling at low speeds.

The stretch of McKnightmare after Edmonton Trail needs to be bumped up from 50 to 60. I don't think a single person goes 50 on that part.

I know McKnight isn't that bad of a road to drive on. I call it a nightmare because it's very PMS-ee with traffic. You never know when it's going to be backed up or when it's not. One day at 8am there will be nobody on it, and the next day it will be jammed up for whatever reason.

Texas. Where stuff makes sense.

85 = 135 kph
70 = 110 kph
65 = 105 kph

This is fine for highway 2 south of the city, for example. Or highway 4 from Lethbridge to the border, which must have the lowest traffic volume of any divided highway in the province. Deerfoot is so many tens of thousands of vehicles over its design limit that Marine Drive logic doesn't really apply to it.

I'd support a graduated speed limit increase in unison with higher driver education standards

Our roads have capacity for much better speeds, but most of our drivers don't!
