Here's a question: who is accountable for the LRT seats "that don't fit actual human beings" (to quote Nenshi) and is there anything in the works to convert them to a flat bench? (I think there was going to be a pilot project?)

Why is there zero enforcement of the No Bike law on Stephen Avenue?
Every morning at 7:00, it is a constant stream of bike riders using it as a freeway.
It does have pretty poor signage I will admit.

Yes, they are being converted to bench seats.

It is enforced from time-to-time - I've seen it - but same with everything else bylaw officers can't be everywhere and they have to prioritize.

They just need to prioritize the things that impact me (and Fotze) and ignore everyone else's complaints.

No idea who or where to ask, or maybe there is a fata in another thread, but I'll put this here seeing as you know everything... What was the deal with the fireworks lit off the top of Calgary Tower today at noon?

Do City bylaws supercede provincial traffic act? Or is the 7th ave bike ban a piece of specific provincial legislation?

Provincial legislation provides the City a fairly wide amount of discretion in how it decides it wants to operate its street right-of-way's through the traffic bylaw.

49. (1) No owner or operator shall: ...
(e) drive along or park a vehicle on the 7th Avenue LRT Corridor, being 7th Avenue South between 3rd Street East and 9th Street West, unless the vehicle is an emergency vehicle, a Calgary Transit vehicle or other vehicle so authorized by permit from the Director, Calgary Transit.
In the case of a bicycle, I believe they are considered in the same way as a private automobile.

Quick question about that, do the bylaw enforcement officers collect enough fines that their department is self funding?
I would think you could just about have a permanent person patroling Stephen Ave and they could make their salary/benefits/overhead back just in bike tickets pretty easily.

Has there been any progress or interesting concepts for revamping the Crowchild/Bow Trail/Memorial area? I'd be interested to see them. That place is a mess.

I believe after the new proposals were less than enthusiastically received it is all going back to the drawing board.

A lot of work probably required to fix that mess as it stretches from Crowchild/Bow overpass to Crowchild/University Drive/24 Ave N.W.

Fines and penalties don't fund (except for a very tiny proportion) the specific budget of Animal and Bylaw Services. I believe fines and penalties tend to go to general revenue.
