Knowing Galiardi personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see him have an A or even the C on his jersey in a few years. Great guy, obviously reflected by his comments to the media.

I just think Gio would have a tougher time giving up the C than Glencross would

Second game, goals were Glencross on Brossoit and Hanowski on MacDonald. Team McDonald won 2-0 (and won both scrimmages today).

Turner Elson got hit hard (and awkwardly) by Stajan and was limping a bit afterwards.

Breen and Klimchuk skated after main group.

So where did Ramo play in all of this?

@Fan960Steinberg: Quick injury update from day 1 of camp: Max Reinhart has a minor lower body injury. Could be back on ice tomorrow. #Flames

Not there though, so no idea who got the tallies.
Hanowski scored on Ramo and (I think) Glencross got the second goal on Brossoit. Berra got the shutout at the other end (but wasn't overly busy).

Ramo has a new mask paint job (looks like an angry skull) and Brossoit has bright red pads and blocker/trapper. Ortio really does play like Kipper Jr.

Glencross - Stajan - Stempniak was the only full-NHL line in the two games, and they were also by far the best line on the ice in both games.

The only kids that I noticed were the d-men, Sieloff, Wotherspoon, and Kanzig. Kanzig really is huge. He made Jackman look small.

The young forwards (Granlund, Monahan, Poirier, etc) had their moments, but didn't really catch my eye. It also didn't help that they were shooting at the far goal, so it's harder to watch the little things at that distance.

Ferland really impressed me on his team's second goal in the first game. O'Brien pinched from the point and Ferland dropped back to cover the point. The puck was passed back to him and he got a nice wrist shot towards the net that was tipped in.

Knight had a nice release on his goal, but otherwise didn't do much that I noticed.

Galiardi and Baertschi were on the same line in the second game (with Poirier most of the time), and there appeared to be some positional confusion where they both would go into the left wing position. I assume that's Galiardi having problems adjusting to being the centre.

There were a few times I noticed one of the d-men at the other end of the ice made a good-smart defensive play, watched to see who it was, and sure enough, #7.

Gio as Captian Calgary.
Got to shake my head at myself. I remember having disgust for him for being "disloyal" and taking off to Russia for a year. Never would have guessed his career projection.

I'm sure he'll re-sign if we want him back. He loves Calgary. Obviously chose to come home when traded by the Sharks.

Wouldn't mind seeing an "A" on Galliardi, just because of his attitude, and the fact that he's vocal about these things. So long as his play shows on the ice too.

We're gonna need guys who're motivated by all the doubt about team this season. Cause without that it could be a tough one.

He started for team black (Peplinski) in the second game.

They switched up the goalies from the printed rosters. Berra was the only goalie for team red (McDonald). Ramo and Brossoit shared the goal for team black (Pep) - each playing half of the second game. MacDonald and Ortio split the first game for team white (McCrimmon).

Also, did Ortio get any time in net today? How did he fare?

He got a shutout. I am starting to wonder if this guy might not make it a 4 horse race for the starting goalie instead of 3.

Shutout (IIRC) in the second half of the first game. His team lost 3-2, but MacDonald let in all the goals.

Speaking of the goalies, Brossoit made one save where he did a full-on Van Damme style straight split with one foot at each post. It hurt just watching it, but he bounced right up like it was no big deal.

I know it was just a prospect tourney, but Ortio's performance really stood out. His athleticism and skill really showed, and he made some saves that other than Kipper, I haven't seen another Flames goaltender make in recent memory. Or perhaps it's just that his style stands out because he needs to compensate for being a smaller goalie. But let's see if he can follow it up with a full, solid camp (with hopefully a start in one of the exhibition games).

WOW

I had no idea

I actually had to check the roster to confirm that

I played poker once with Glencross, and met Gio at the Roast 2 years ago

Assumed they were at least 5 years apart

Not a bad idea.... since none of the other 3 horses are particularly compelling over the others

Good to keep our options open
