It's funny you mentioned this.....seeing as I'm apparently in a 'spill your guts' kind of mood today I will tackle the idea head on.

When I worked in (just call it) Technology I posted to CP constantly during the day. It was up on my browser and got at least equal attention to my work mailbox.

Since moving to O&G I have probably posted no more than 5 messages during a work day. There just isn't time. The work tends to be so much more engaging and requires so much more attention. It's an honest effort not work 70+ hours a week (I try to keep day-to-day life at 50 or less).

The flip side is that today, with no regrets or second guessing, I found myself with a rare opportunity to F off at 200pm, sit on my sun soaked deck, drink a Banquet Beer, and post on my favorite place on the internet.

Work hard, post hard.

Thats all we ever hear in accounting or at designation meetings: network, network, network. Indeed it really is more about who you know than what you can do. A friend of mine had no office experience whatsoever, and because she was connected and knew the right people, she had an office gig before I did, even as I'm schooled in it. So basically don't ever burn bridges at a job because everyone talks, and the last thing you need is word around that you have a bad reputation.

It's a good thing we all make several times that then. CP is the 1%.

Calgary's 1% a bit higher than that

According to StatsCan, in 2010 the median income of a one percent-er living in Toronto was $301,200, while in Calgary it was $293,800.

Not with the price of housing / property tax here

$100k nets you maybe 70?

After property tax, insurance and mortgage, you'd be lucky to have 30k to live off for the year

NOt gonna work for family of 4

as a guy who lives/works in Toronto. i gotta say folks back in CGY have it pretty good. my friends in CGY, working in Oil/Gas for the most part, are making an absolute killing salary wise. the price of real-estate is inflated, sure, but getting an affordable house for people working in oil/gas is still fairly "easy"....

now comparing that to toronto is a much different story. Earning 100K individually here really doesn't get you much. Any half decent home (detached, 2 garage, 2k sq foot) in a half decent area (burbs included) easily runs you 600-700K (plus the ~4k annual property tax).

i often consider moving back to calgary, while keeping my toronto job (my work doesn't require me to be based out of toronto), because i think my dollar would go a lot further there. unfortunately, the wife has no interest in re-locating (born/raised here in toronto).

It would be interesting if the poll was public. I think the numbers would be a lot different.

I think you'd have less respondents. While your thought is probably that people are inflating themselves with their e-ego's, the anonymity ensures of privacy.

Anonymity typically ensures accuracy on personal surveys

But i would be good to see the 100+ broken up

less than 50k
50k-74k
75k-99k
100k-124k
125k-149k
150k-174k
