In case anyone is interested, TD Bank has set up a donation fund to help the families of the deceased. As well, rival company Brinks has set up the same thing via RBC.

Baumgartner gets life with no chance of parole for 40 years - harshest sentence in years.
Glad to see that dick get this sentence. My husband grew up in the same town as Michelle Shegelski (where her dad is the Mayor) - knew her parents well. We used to watch her run around in her parents' store when she was a kid. Broke my heart seeing her dad on the news tonight.

Should've given him 1,000 years like that Castro guy in Cleveland.

As much as I find the 1,000 year sentence amusing, there's something about the glimmer of hope that the 40 years without parole that I like better. Maybe I've watched Shawshank a few too many times, but getting out when you're too old to do a god damned thing has to be worse punishment than knowing that you're going to die in your one bunk Hilton.

Forty years without parole. I would assume this guy wouldn't be able to convince anyone he should be paroled when he is 61. He'll be in rough shape if he makes it to his 70's in prison. I'm pretty upset this loser ruined four families. They can only help themselves now.

Completely agree.
"I'll get out in my seventies....I'll get to taste freedom again!"
Parole denied.

I have no problem with this sentence, however I thought Canada had a maximum of 25 years before parole eligibility. I would think I would have heard about a law being changed to this degree. Did this happen when they scrapped the faint hope clause?

It happened just a few years ago and I'm not sure whether that was the same time as faint hope or not. While there are a lot of CPC crime initiatives I'm not in favour of, I definitely am in favour of this one in particular.

My face is a bum!

He should have gotten eleventy hundred years!
And the jury should have sodomized him with Judge Ito's IBM Thinkpad.
And then handed him over to Johnny Cochranne and OJ Simpson in a dark Alley.
