Were the last batch of Siemens built in California? I thought they came from Germany, but I could be wrong.

Ugh! That really grinds my gears as a bus driver when I hear a passenger yell this. Yeah, I'm really going to stop in a bus zone for passengers to disembark and not activate the rear door. I even had someone yell that to me in the past week before I even brought the bus to a complete stop.

Does anyone take the train DT from franklin in the mornings? How easy is it to get on a train? Are they usually all full by 7:30?

Franklin is the station where it begins to get difficult to find room but it shouldn't be too difficult. At worse, you might have to let one train pass.

Okay, that is great news.

I've had to yell it before, when the driver forgot. Obviously it's annoying when it happens and not needed but it happens not a big deal.

Nice looking trains!

Bunk, will the green line be low floor? I remember hearing talks about it but nothing official.

Did you just call me dumb-dumb?

I don't know how you interpret "The green line will be low-floor." But he doesn't say "The green line MIGHT be low floor." or "There are rumours the green line will be low floor." He actually just says the green line will be low floor.

Throwaway comment or not, it's hard to misinterpret such a short sentence.

I did.

I asked the question in hopes of getting an expanded answer, that's why I added the sentence after. It opens up the question for Bunk to hopefully expand on it, (when it was made official etc).

Instead of calling me dumb for answering your questions, or annoying for pointing out that the answer to your question is on the same page as the question, perhaps you can chill a bit? I was trying to be helpful. I figured since Bunk had JUST answered your question before you asked, you may have missed it.

Perhaps if you want a detailed answer, you should reformat your whole question so that it cannot be answered with a yes or a no.

I want the goalie mask design, but only if they paint every car to look like a different Flames goalie's mask from throughout the years.

A few key features you will see on the new LRVs:

- Glass partition wall between the driver's cab and the passenger carriage will make the LRV more permeable and allow passengers to look forward (or back) along the journey.

- All glass passenger doors

- Bench-style seating does away with the grooved bucket seats as seen on the Series 8 LRVs (last order), which were maligned by some

- End doors moved back from the operator's cab allows better passenger flow and helps alleviate some of the door-crowding problems

- Potentially less stanchions (poles) with some more innovative handhold options. Not sure if this will actually happen and may come out after the detailed design phase

- Leaning pads instead of fold-up seats in the priority seating areas and in the articulation bellows (middle of the train where it bends) allows for more capacity as well as an almost-seat when the wheelchair/stroller area is not occupied as well as in the articulation where no such feature was before.

- Digital displays for next stop/destination as well as possible "infotainment" displays that could display things such as: realtime line map with current train location, next stop/destination, date, time, weather, announcements

Yes, only the original U2s were built in Germany.

The U2s were a German design by a company called Duwag, and the U2 design was actually used for years before Calgary's system was even built, primarily on the German U-bahn system. It's now a 50 year-old design and technology.

Siemens bought out Duwag in the 1990s and have their manufacturing plant in Sacremento where they have made trains for a lot of other North American light rail systems such as Portland, Denver, Salt Lake City, Charlotte, Norfolk, San Diego, Edmonton, Minneapolis and Houston. The "SD" in the SD160 model stands for Siemens-Duwag.

This one seems like we might regret it. If someone has a stroller and needs/wants to sit, they're kind of screwed. Also less seating for what appears to be marginally more space might not be the right balance between peak capacity and off-peak ride comfort.
