In his 25 games he played with the wings last season he averaged 19:35 .... slotting him in at #3.

Looks like Detroit just didn't like him any more ... basically because he was too small.

Here is an article from June 1 that tells White's last year in Detroit.

“I don’t know (what happened),” White said. “I thought I was playing pretty well. I played seven games in a row the last time I played and I was on the ice for one goal against in seven games. I scored a goal too and thought I was playing pretty well. Obviously not letting goals in is what I’m paid to do, so for whatever reason I wasn’t in the mix and sometimes that’s how it goes.”

In 77 regular season games last year, White had seven goals and 25 assists. He was also a plus-22.

He dipped to 25 games played in his lockout-shortened season, scoring two goals to go with two assists and was a plus-4.

“I spoke with them a few times,” White said. “The only thing I can think of is I’m a small defenseman and I’ve been hearing that my whole life, you’ve got to be big to play and all that. They decided to go with their big defensemen and that didn’t include me.”

White missed five games early in the season after suffering deep leg laceration, but once healthy he was back in the lineup.

Then on Feb. 27, White found himself a healthy scratch. That continued on for six consecutive games.

Babcock said at the time it was because he was having difficulty getting the puck out of his zone.

In Winnipeg there will be 6 tough d-men (Bogosian, Byfuglien, Stuart, Clitsome, Pardy and Trouba) and Enstrom with White as insurance if Enstrom gets hurt.

Perhaps most horrifying was the mention that Stajan would immediately slot in on the top line with Iggy and Dustin Boyd. Oh my Jesus and we thought this would work out...

The Jets lost Hainsey who actually looked quite capable while playing a lot of minutes for them last season so they need another top four D-man (assuming Trouba or Redmond won't quite be ready). But I don't know if Ian White is the answer they are looking for. Although he could potentially end up taking minutes with either Bogosian or Byfuglien so he might actually be okay.

Reading this and all the positive things Bobby Mac had to say about the players we got kinda makes me die a little inside

Dustin Boyd a top line winger? McKenzie must have watched one shift with an unusual line combo before writing that, when Iggy was being double shifted and playing with the 4th line.

Anyways, White has a great moustache.

to be fair they were productive secondary scorers until Brent got his hands on them. Stajan and Hagman are just a couple examples of players that Brent Sutter misused horribly.

Watching Stajan and Bouwmeester rebound after Sutter was fired definitely makes me wonder if Hagman would still be in the NHL if he hadn't come to the Flames.

Then I remembered that he had a chance to keep playing with the Ducks after getting away from the Flames and still played his way out of the NHL... ah well.

Some players never bounce back after losing their confidence. I find it hard to believe he just lost his talent the moment he was traded. Especially considering he went from 69 goals in 202 games before joining the Flames to 17 goals 106 games with the Flames, is such a sharp decline that I would blame it on confidence. His goal production was literally cut more than in half, that is an astonishing drop off.

I could be wrong, because it is an assumption based on the way other players had their offensive game magically return the moment they got a different coach. I think Jokinen is another player that would have been very good under Hartley.

Jokinen was the best UFA centre summer of 2012 after playing under Sutter: 23 goals 61 pts. He changed coaches and is close to being bought out. 45 games 7 goals 14 pts .

Somehow Sutter kept this group of misfits within a couple of wins of making the playoffs.... Hartley came in and despite Stajan and Stempniak having their great years and their careers basically saved AND Hudler and Bouwmeester playing so great and yet the Flames have the worst year in Franchise history...

Frankly it wouldn't be a successful season if Stajan scores 50 goals and puts up 100 pts and Stempniak puts in 35 goals and the Flames finish 24th again.

Depending on your point of view. I know many fans consider anything less than a cup win a "failure" for the season but I am accepting of the fact that this year is going to be pretty brutal for the Flames. No Iginla, no Kipper, no Bouwmeester. Those are a lot of big shoes to fill and the additions that we made are not exactly comparable (yet).

Anyway, in my mind it would be a success for the Flames to be able to showcase their rental players for the trade deadline. The team can continue to sit in the basement (or not) but it would really help us get better assets at the deadline if guys like Stajan, Cammalleri and Stempniak all had excellent individual season. Give them loads of PP time and lots of chances to pad their stats and hope that it turns into first round picks and blue chip prospects.

For me, that would be a success and if last season was any indication I think Hartley can pull it off.
