Thanks Minnie, according to wiki the pace at this point looks to be reasonably close? I don't think this video will get any where near the exponential growth though.

That chart is sort of annoying to read this late while feeling the effects of sleeping pills.

These days, any major music video release gets 10 million views in the first week. It's bonkers.

Yep, exactly. It's becoming the norm. Even look at viral prank videos. That fake teacher one had like 5 million views after a few days. That'll happen, but it's in no way an indication that it's on track with Gangham style.

This video is pretty funny, but has none of the characteristics of Gangham style. That was a combination of a Korean pop star making his first video for North Americans to see, along with an incredibly catchy verse and chorus, and memorable dance for people to jokingly follow along with.

This is a guy who made a funny song about foxes. The chorus is just him making random noises because foxes don't make noises, and the dance routine is just standard dancing and won't catch on as anything more than that. This is a video people will watch once, maybe twice.

Actually, Gangnam Style was not made for North American audiences. Story goes that the reason why it got big here is because it was sent by one group of Korean teenagers to their other Korean friends living in Los Angeles or somewhere in that area. They shared it on Facebook, it spread to the right people that decided to spread it more, and thus... it became what it is today.

Part of what made it what it was is that Psy didn't pursue any copyright claims on it, he just let it grow oragnically.

The guy has made almost 2 million USD on that video so far, which is likely way more than he earned for it through it recording contract.

At least these guys are legitimately funny (the other videos). They'll probably be able to turn this into real international success.
