Best Soccer Pubs Calgary
Hi Guys,
I've moved back to my hometown and have been blessed with a gig repping for Carlsberg (Kronenbourg etc). I'm specifically looking for your favourite pubs/bars to watch some footy. Carlsberg is a major sponsor for the Barclay's Premiere League next season (as well as EPL clubs such as Liverpool, Arsenal etc and National clubs England, Ireland, Denmark etc).
I've been going to the Ship as a consumer, performer and football fan for over 15 years - so that's a given... and awesome.
But I'm hearing more and more pub owners saying they want to also start showing games and growing a football+beer community on weekend mornings and National matches.
They'll be working hard to put out prizes and specials - but need to know where you'd like to watch your EPL or National club play.
Cheers!

Wurst is a good spot, although I'm not sure how a German place would feel about a Danish beer on it's turf. I really like what Europe does when it sets up on street squares but i'm not sure Calgary could sustain this. set up a massive screen at olympic plaza and show the entire world cup or big matches from the top 5 leagues (ENG, SPA, ITA, and GER and FRA).
Random Carlsberg question for you. Any plans on bring Carlsberg Elephant to Canada?

I don't think Calgary is quite there yet either, but here's hoping... Wurst is pretty great - I'll have to catch some German matches there. No dice on the Elephant. I haven't even tried it, how was it?

I watched the champions league final at Wurst, and it was pretty packed. Going back for the German Cup final, it was almost dead. Certainly not there yet as a hot spot, but for odd league games I've seen 10-15 odd people show up. If it grows it could be a good one though.

yea i'm interested in good football pubs. i'm planning on being in Calgary for the world cup next year and desperately want good pubs to watch the games...
i'm pretty sure Carlsberg is the equivalent of bud light back in Britain (generic piss/no taste), but kronenburg is my nectar of choice!!
how are the licencing laws in Calgary? strict no alcholol before midday?

IIRC, Fiddler's Courtyard on Edmonton Trail is the official pub of the Calgary Voyageurs. Would be a great place to watch the Gold Cup in a couple weeks.

Liquor license in Calgary is 10am to 2am I believe. In Brazil, I doubt we need a special license as the time zone should be close enough.

That will work out perfectly because the earliest games will be at 10am Calgary time, and the latest will be at 7pm (Brazil is 3 hours ahead of Calgary in June).

Thanks for all your feedback guys. Keep it coming if you can think of more.
Brews flow legally at 10am. Fiddlers + the Ship downtown, Winkin' Owl in the South, Richmond's in the West will be showing matches this upcoming season as well. Many more to come... If there's a pub you have in mind that hasn't been showing EPL matches that is near/convenient to you, please let me know!
CHEERS!

St. James on 1st St used to be my preferred destination for Champions League or weekday EPL matches.

Nice, I might have to come down one of these days. Also, the Pig and Darts has just become the first choice when I'm looking to go play darts.

Can't speak to their soccer coverage, but I go to the Pig and Duke regularly, and love it. Lots of great beer (many microbrews with new ones every month) and great food.

Please do. We are recognised officially by the club and so have been getting quite a few people. This season is the start. We are able to get tickets as well.

Yeah the food and drink is pretty good there. Their Eggs Benedict for breakfast is a great way to enjoy the live Arsenal games. They will also show all the other team games as they can show 4 feeds at once - but right now it's only us who have been regularly going there as many people do not know they now open for the games.
For the Arsenal Supporters Club please see our Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/calgarygooners/
So you know we are Officially recognised by the Club:

Our Twitter Handle so you can find out when we watch games:

Please pass this info onto any Arsenal fan in Calgary. It's much better to watch the games with other fans than sitting at home!!!
