The Ferland-Granlund combo is really clicking right now. I thought Sven looked better tonight lining up with Max than he did in the Penticton games. I really like Sieloff's mean streak. He just wants to hit anyone who comes near him wearing the other team's jersey.

Sieloff looks pretty confident with the puck for a guy with "no offensive upside". I bought into this talk about him being a Regehr light(tough mean defender, no offensive ability), but now I believe he can be a Gary Suter, or even better a Ryan Suter. To reach that level though, going pro this year might be a mistake. Let him become an offensive, powerplay/penalty kill, terror in junior for another year, and let him start destroying players in a years time.
To be more clear: if you rush him pro this year he will be a good, stay at home d-man. But if you are patient, you might have a special, franchise defenseman. Like a defensively capable dion phanuef.

Lets not lose our minds over a couple rookie tournie games. Ryan Suter-like?
I'm thinking you should temper your expectations a little.

Pfft please.. It's a scrimmage vs. the Dinos. What do you expect?
Pretty sure the guys that will be attending main camp are 100% focused on wednesday right now.

Yeah. Yikes. Nashville would be happy if Seth Jones became as good as Ryan Suter. Sorry but Pat Sieloff just is not that guy.

Ferland -> Lucic
Kangig -> Chara
Sieloff -> Suter
Ortio -> Kipper
I'm sure I've missed a few.
People are getting a little excited over these rookie games.

Yeah ... hockey has to try and get excitement out of the game for fans. It's killing the sport!
People should remain grounded and sullen when it comes to the team they cheer for and their future.

Or, maybe there's a sensible middle in between two dumb extremes.

I'd like to think I'm in that middle so I hear you.
But if a person has to pick an extreme as a hockey fan, give me the really excited fan (he is a fan after all) then the guy that wanders around making sure nobody ever has a smile on their face by dumping sober reality on them.

The problem with having too many of those fans is no accountability for team management. If fans support the team too fervently through the thin times it eases the urgency of ownership IMO.

Good call. This is the type of advice I can take from Oilers fans.

I imagine this is only a fraction as frustrating as it was to hear people refer to Hall and Eberle as the next Gretzky and Messier.
What I find most curious, is that people compare our bit-players like Ferland and Kanzig to stars like Lucic and Chara, but nobody compares Baertschi and Monahan to Kane and Toews... well... at least not as much. I guess there's some balance.

I just don't see why people have to crap on other people's optimism. It's not hurting you or anyone else for them to have crazy expectations. A lot of times it's not even expectations. "I can see Baertschi being a Hossa" is not an expectation. It's just a whim feeling, or wishful thinking. The people with the warped expecations are those who expect 18 year olds to come in and make NHL impacts, or they were wasted picks. Even most first overall picks, people tend to agree that they should have been held back after mediocre showings and injuries (see: Nugent-Hopkins).
I'd personally rather have my head in the clouds than in the dirt.

Why is having your head roughly 6 feet off the ground never an option? I'm scared of heights and I'd rather not get my hair all covered in dirt.

I'm not saying there's not even keel people (I consider myself pretty even keel), but for every person wanting Monahan to be Mario Lemieux, there is seems to be at least 3 people that almost want him to bust. How else will we get top picks?!?! That's whats most important right?

Oh I think we're on the same page here. I can't stand people saying "Oh Ferland is going to be Lucic!" but I also can't stand people who say "Ferland won't make the NHL." People just need to go for a bit of balance instead of "Wow Stanley Cup next year!" And "BOO No playoffs for 5 more years!" being the two options. Both are equally ridiculous.
EDIT: 6'3 I LOVE THIS GAME!
