The weapon of choice was a butterfly knife. Certainly had no problem yammering to the press afterwards as if it was some sort of media conference she had training for as MRU president...smiling and the whole bit.

Supposedly a "gambling program" was the reason for the crime...gambling whether chocolate or regular twinkies were more delicious?

The former president of Mount Royal University's student union pleaded guilty to robbery and other charges in a Calgary courtroom Wednesday morning.
Meghan Darcy Melnyk, 28, was charged with robbery, possession of a prohibited weapon and committing an indictable offence while disguised.

"I really regret what I did, for the people I hurt and what happened as a result," she said outside court after it adjourned. "Right now this is about me taking accountability, seeking help so that I can go and be a productive member of society again."
Guesses to what she'll receive as punishment? she already had a record so I'm guessing (hoping) for a pretty stern prison sentence in the range of 3-5 years, but knowing the system she will receive community service and forced to "counsel" her habits.

Gambling problems is no excuse for breaking the law.

Prison might be the best thing for her health. She will likely lose a lot of that excess weight.

I always like the PT cruiser bit. She was so close to being Walter White.

MRC should have stricter background checks for student officials that have that sort of power. Convicted of a crime? Your job if you want to help out the SU is to put up posters, not be President and be in control of funds. Guaranteed although it was called a civil matter and swept under the rug, that was to save MRU from embarrassment, surely she was skimming there.

Now trying to tie up the courts with junk like this, I hope she gets taught a harsh lesson and her manipulation and (husky voiced) sweet talk get stomped on by a judge.

The semester she attempted to rob that bank, she was actually in one of my politics and media classes at MRU. She should have been sentenced to extra time in jail for the amount of pointless statements she made in that class, and her thinly veiled attempts to suck up to the prof.
