Great tourney by the flames kids... Happy to see that kind of skill in the system. It's pretty obvious that the coaching staff avoided putting the best players together and tried to put guys who were there on tryouts on lines with the higher end prospects. Went through the whole tournament and never saw baertschi with Monahan and poirier/ferland.

Homer observation:

It was the very end of the tournament and the puck was bouncing around like a tennis ball during that game.

In the first two games our outlet passing and passing in general was much better, the ice made it a lot harder to play a skill game and favored a crashing high-pressure forecheck. I think that had the ice surface not been any issue, the Flames would have connected on more of their scoring chances.

I was pretty impressed with the showing in the tourney. Flames and Abby should have some skill in a year or two.

I saw a couple things at the game that have yet to be commented on, besides the shark bench and the ref's giving free stuff my kids.

Jooris - real leader on the ice. May not be the most talented, but he commanded the troops on the ice. I noticed that several times.

Barestchi - wow, he has a great second gear, but sure looked lazy and on used it now and again.

Brossoit - needs to work on the rebound control. He will stay in Abby until he can control that.

Hanowski - cherry picker all the way - not much of a back checker. That's what I saw, but maybe that was how it was drawn up. Still drives me nuts.

I'll comment on one sharks player Max Iafrate - wow is he a clone of his father. Just is a better skater than his dad.

Ferland was the best player for the flames on the ice, and he actually knows how to finish a check.

Kulak - that boy is one calm cool customer, doesn't make mistakes, just does his job.

Kanzig - great jab, and decent hook - might be too slow for the show for D though.

Great number of flames jerseys in the stadium - I loved seeing a #9 and #14.

Be nice to see how some of these kids do in the big camp.

I noticed that as well in the few games that he played for the Flames last season. He also doesn't seem to be a strong skater.

At the time I thought he was just being tentative with it being his first NHL game(s). He's definitely going to have to increase his intensity level to make this team, or to stay in pro hockey for that matter. I don't see him fitting into the Burke mold.
