McKenzie: Galiardi may play center for the Flames
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 11m CGY has told T.J. Galiardi to work on faceoffs this summer, EDM the same with Taylor Hall. No telling if it'll work but likely to be tried.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 10m
CGY curious to see if Galiardi, who played C in minor hockey, can fit in with Stajan and Backlund as Flames' top 3 centres.

Hrm, I was hoping Knight (or even Monahan) would be a lock for #3C but I guess he hasn't been good enough in camp.

Is it possible that he used to be good at faceoffs, and they may simply want him to do what Iggy used to?

I think Monahan needs to go dominate the OHL this year. It is making more and more sense to do that.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 23s CGY will also gives kids Sean Monahan, Max Reinhart, Markus Granlund and Corban Knight long looks at C but may only be room for 1, maybe 2.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 30s The 4 young CGY C's were best players in 1st prospect game yesterday. If he earns it in camp, won't be shocked if Monahan gets 9-game trial.

Going on 2 years that Feaster has not actually added a real NHL center. At least he keeps saying he is going to get one. What a joke.

At this point getting a real centre right now will only hurt us. We'll get our legit first line centre when we draft McDavid in 2 years.

Then Feaster should shut the hell up and not insult our intelligence by trading for a winger that hasn't played C since minor hockey and put him in the middle. Play Reinhart there for chrissakes. At least he's a natural C. Enough of this experimentation, overpay and get the C or shut it.

talk about overreactions, telling a playing to work on faceoffs =/= being slotted in as a centre. If Galiardi gets put with Backlund he may be asked to take more draws than he would have normally.
Or maybe they simply want an insurance policy in case the kids aren't ready for NHL action.

If the kids can't beat out a guy who has not played center since minors, then they should not make the main team.

I think McKenzie is reading too much into things. Sure Calgary tried converting guys to center, but does anyone really thing Edmonton is going to make Hall a center. They're just telling guys to work on their face-offs.

IIRC when we got Galardi it was said by some poster that he could slot in at centre, so this is no surprise.

Big body and a winger with prior center experience (not in the NHL)? You're hired!

Jeez, Camp hasn't started yet and already their not good enough?
If T.J was told in the summer to work on faceoffs it has nothing to do with the new centers at all, the coaches probably looked at his history and saw he didn't take many. Just something to work on.
Wingers are counted on to take faceoffs, Iginla consistently took 4-500 per year.

It also helps if he is going to be used on the PK if he can take draws, in case the centre out there gets tossed from the faceoff

Yeah don't see this as him being moved to center.
PK faceoffs and to help the young center group win faceoffs from the wing.
