The original intent was to see whether the CP Hockey community was supportive of the Canadian Olympic Hockey Teams explicitly making a statement about the treatment of LGBT community in Russia.
The thread has gone all over the place, it hasn't been boring.

I didn't mention those teachers and police officers because they are not relevant to the question I put to you. But just to get it out of the way, I think anyone that abuses a child, either mentally, physically or sexually is the worst kind of person. The difference is that when a teacher or a police officer are caught molesting a child, they are arrested, charged and sent to jail. But when a catholic priest does it, the church tries to hide it, shuffle the priest to a new location and allow him to continue molesting children. Personally, that offends me to no end. How does it make you feel?
And then to make things even more interesting - when you come in here and provide a study that says that molesting kids makes them gay, do you really think no one is going to make the connection between that and the priests in the catholic church molesting kids?
You have basically provided a study that says catholic priests make people gay through molesting them when they are young. And the priests are sinning themselves too by performing these sexual sins with these kids. Why do you give the priests a free pass when you clearly hate the gayness that they are creating?
Wow, that is some deep vicious cycle thinking. No wonder you are angry.

Would you support Rainbow on Hockey Unis for Sochi?
I do have to ask:
What is it people who want this thread locked take issue with?
Yeah, it's got steady rounds of cyclical bickering.
It's been petty, ridiculous, frustrating, interesting, informative, and a few other things, but it certainly hasn't been boring.
I mean, you KNOW you don't have to click on it or read it right?

This is being blown out of proportion guys & gals. Lets all take a step back and talk about hockey or move the conversation to private/off topic forum.
Thanks

I found an incredible solution for you guys. This is one of many threads in the FOI forum. How about try not clicking on it? I don't go into a church and start complaining about preaching.
Pretty damn simple. It's not up to you what stays open and what gets moved, etc. It's up to the mods, so just don't click on it. Simple.

I know some people want this thread closed, or certain posters banned. But the thing is - by giving some of these guys a place to post their opinions, it really does hammer home how dated and absurd their viewpoints are. For those who are perhaps still on the fence about the issue of equal rights, I would think finding yourself on the same side of the argument as certain posters would have to cause you to question if you in fact may have it all wrong.
So for now we will continue to give these guys a place to demonstrate what idiots they are er express their opinions. Stuff like this needs to be talked about so we all move forward, or at least most of us.

After all my talk of people being brown-nosers for thanking mod posts, a mod comes out of nowhere with an actual thankable post!
I agree that this has been a very enlightening thread. It's really eye-opening to see how some people still think on this issue in 2013.
You can almost see them squirming as they try to bend and twist every post as to not come off homophobic. You get the feeling that some on here are holding back but are this close to blurting out "I'M UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE GAY!!!!!!!!!!".

As discussed before, the next step is taking away the gays of children.

Yeah, I mean all Catholic priests are doing is going around telling people that they are the voice of God, and that they provide the one and only source of all morality and ethics in the world. And now suddenly people start to hold them to some kind of higher standard or something? What's up with that?

If true? What? You don't trust the Gay Star News? To me that sounds like a reputable reporting service that would not be at all biased.

Are you sure you are willing to go out on that branch? I mean, don't you need to understand the thinking of the Russian people before saying that this is disgusting??
I completely agree with you, it is disgusting. When Itse first posted about his friend's need to flee Russia I thought it was pretty grim. Now that there is talk that they are actually going to try to make a law that removes children from their parents....
I would be okay with the Canadian embassy opening its doors to help these people. We keep hearing reports about Canada needing to import more people, specifically people with higher education, why not start poaching Russian families that would love to come to Canada to be safe from persecution.
If this law went through then I would fully support a boycott of Russia until they get their human right's assault against the LGBT community under control. And I am not just talking about the Olympics.

Sorry for Godwinning this thread, but I feel this poem is appropriate (not in a concentration camp sense, but the idea of a slippery slope).
First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.
They deserve to have people fighting for their basic human rights.

Doesn't seem like much of a stretch, it's already illegal for same sex couples to adopt a child.
http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2013/0...phobic-attack/
This Zhuravlev says that having a gay parent that has a partner does immense damage to the child's psyche, so the propaganda law should extend into families.

Bias may be relevant if it was an opinion piece. It is not an opinion piece.

Also, as Photon pointed out, there are a number of other places reporting the same thing. So even if it is a biased article, there are multiple sources.
I liked this article's description of Putin and Obama's greeting at the G20 summit (from the Washington Post).

Considering how ugly the Team Canada jersey is with the plastic laces and crap on the shoulders, a little rainbow bright couldn't hurt.
And it would embarrass the piss out of the Russians who know that the only Winter Olympic sport that gets viewers in North America is hockey.
Well... that and figure skating. Good thing there's no gays in there who get to pick their own costumes...

LMAO with the look of those jerseys I'm not sure that the LGBT wants to have the rainbow flag associated with the jersey.
