Any issues he had looked like poor play and nothing I saw seemed to do with fitness or him being out of shape.

I said I didn't want Kipper to go back to his regular work load cause it would be nice to give our young goalies some actual extended playing time in the NHL, something that we never do unless we're forced too. Also, we're going to suck anyways. Why have a goalie stealing us games? I mean if we are some how competitive then okay, but I mean if we play like last season or worse, I don't really want Kipper taking away potential development from young guys AND worsening our draft pick.

True, these young men have never been exposed to smoking or drinking before so we don't want toxic kipper to have a bad influence on them

He smokes. I don't think anybody here would argue that point. What does it say about an athlete's commitment to his cardiovascular conditioning when he willingly poisons his body with cigarettes?

Yes, he certainly did have a pretty poor team out there in front of him. However, I think we all know that Kipper has been making the team in front of him look good since he came here. Not so much last season.

Based on what Kipper did over his career I would say that it says that smoking doesn't for some athletes and couldn't care less about Kippers so-called "commitment to cardiovascular conditioning" based on the way he played in a Flames uniform.

I'm very surprised that some posters are basically throwing Kipper under the bus for a bad habit. The guy nearly-singlehandedly made the Flames competitive again. I can't stand how some people seem to so easily forget what guys like Iginla and Kiprusoff have done for the franchise.

I'm not saying he wasn't a great player in the past. I am his biggest fan. However, you can only let a player live off his reputation for so long. He was terrible last season.

Neither one of them played in the NHL in 2013. Sports science has advanced to the point that players like them wouldn't be able to play in the NHL if they didn't clean up their act. Or wear helmets.

If that's the case, I think you'd be surprised at how many current NHLers actually do smoke.

But, I digress. I don't want to further derail this thread.

That he has a nasty habit.

Can you back up your claim that he doesn't work out? You made it last page and have made several posts since.

I must admit that I was amazed to hear that Wideman is a smoker. Is smoking really that prevalent amongst NHLers? I always thought that it was so hard to make it as a professional hockey player just strictly in terms of the fitness level required, never mind skill, that none of them would every risk their career with such a needless habit.

I might not smoke anymore, but you can take your anti-smoking campaign somewhere else.

People can smoke all they like, that is their business. However, when I'm paying good money to see an athlete perform, I expect them to be in the best possible shape that they can be. Is it unreasonable to for me to expect an athlete who makes millions of dollars not to intentionally harm his own level of fitness?
