All of them do, that's the big lie. Conservatism in North American poltics has not meant smaller government in the last 40-50 years. Yet people parrot it like it's a truth.

Look at both sides in the States. Both horribly wasteful.

In Canada, the recent libs actually cut government, conservatives grew it.

It's all just parroted nonesense by old coots.

I like small government and less taxes so I vote conservative!

Read a paper other than the Sun you ignorant Asshat. (not you specifcally, tthough I think you get my commentary.)

This is not to say that stimulus spending isn't a good idea somewhere sometime.

I'm just really sick of Joe Six-Pack going, 'we need more conservative government cause our spending is out of control'

Dude, grab some materials. We really need to end this blantently false sound bite.

I just think it's funny that a conservative has attacked Trudeau was attacked for being a "flip-flopper" when Harper did a complete policy 180 when threatened with a confidence vote. He went from zero stimulus to $30+ billion stimulus in a matter of months.

No arguments there.

But most do it. And most point the finger at the other aisle as well.

So I know this is a study from the US, but it is pretty telling about the changing attitudes towards drugs. Indeed, the booming market is the 50+ crowd

Quote:
Drug use among America's youth is dropping, but it's booming among people over 50, a U.S. government survey released Wednesday shows.

Last year, the rate of illicit drug use among children and teenagers 12 to 17 years old dropped to 9.5 percent, down from 11.6 percent a decade earlier, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) latest national survey.

Meanwhile, illicit drug use among adults 50 to 64 years old has increased in the past decade.

Specifically, illicit drug use among adults 50 to 54 has more than doubled since 2002, reaching 7.2 percent last year. For people 55 to 59, such drug use has more than tripled, reaching 6.6 percent last year.

Marijuana is by far the most-used illicit drug among both children and adults, according to SAMHSA, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services.

At a press conference Wednesday in Washington, officials expressed particular concern about use by those 12 to 17 years old.

"There's no question that marijuana is harmful to the developing brains of adolescents," said SAMHSA administrator Pamela Hyde, adding that marijuana use has been linked to "significant I.Q. declines."

As for young adults – those 18 to 25 years old – rates of illicit drug use have remained somewhat steady over recent years, with a slight increase in marijuana use, according to the survey.

I always thought legalization would be something that would happen in my lifetime, but not until I was into 40s. Now I can see it happening in the next 5 years.

^^they are now empty nesters and have way too much free time and don't know what to do with it.

drug use is a great way to "run out the clock" on those long evenings and weekends when there isn't much to do

One of the topics I never see in these legalization discussions is THC content. I would think there should be a limit on that because some of the marijuana can be quite potent especially for younger and 1st time users.

But still you do the second or third time. There was a documentary a while back on CBC about first time younger users developing schizophrenia after smoking for a while. They're in the minority but still, something to think about.

Basically some users end up with schizophrenia after smoking weed for a short time, like a couple years or something like that.

Doesn't surprise me that drug use has increased in those in the 50+ age bracket. But I wouldn't say it is because those people are starting to use. It's because they were teenagers in the 70's and have probably been using, to some degree, since then.

Corelation does not equal causation.

Yeah, could just as easily say:

"There was a documentary about younger people developing schizophrenia after being alive for a while"

Maybe some people starting smoking in order to deal with their growing schizophrenia.

Well all drugs are rougher on developing minds and bodies. There are even studies on how much more harmful caffeine is to kids and teens than adults, so this would make sense.

However I do agree that people developing schizophrenia probably have a stronger pull towards drugs. Although I would argue that using any drug to 'deal' with schizophrenia (unless it's given by a doctor) is a horrible idea. It makes it so much worse. I've seen this first hand. And like most drugs or addictions, it feels like it's helping at the start so it makes it so much harder to stop, or even see that it's hurting.

Basically if you're using drugs to deal with anything, it's probably a bad idea. That's the same thing alcoholics say about many of their habits.

There are obviously a few outliers surrounding medical marijuana, that aren't as accepted yet, but schizophrenia is not one of them. It's very dangerous.
