I think there will be a lot of people here who are going to get real upset real quick when he starts trading away prospects for players rather than letting them develop. We have been calling for a rebuild for a long time and now that it is finally here, and we have a growing cupboard of prospects that we can start to get a little excited about, we are going to give the reigns to a man with no patience in team building. Looks like a quick fix to avoid a real rebuild by the ownership to me.

The guy is a dinosaur from a pre cap era and we don't need him imo. Let the current management keep us moving forward, they have done a good job this summer (bring on the list of we hate Feaster because posts....) and we should let that continue.

I guess I will get trod on because this goes against the masses

Other than the Kessel trade what has he done that makes people think all he does is trade prospects?

Also because of the season that Toronto had before the Kessel trade they made a run for the last spot. Kessel was supose to get them over the hump.

The flames are nowhere near in the same situation. Unless Burke can trade for Crosby and Lunqvist there is no chance that the flames can make the playoffs.

Brian Burke is exactly the type of guy this organization needs.

In Burke we trust.

I really liked the direction the Flames have been going in the last couple of years - they started placing an emphasis on drafting and development, and though the on-ice product sucked, things were going to improve on time because of that emphasis.

I really dislike Burke's personality as well. I really don't like that representing the Flames at all, and the baggage that he carries onto this team (not going to list anything personal in his life, and they all seem to be rumors - but there are rumors out there that I won't be adding to here).

I don't think this is the right step for the Flames to take, especially at this time. I think most of the posters here would agree that the way the Flames are going about it is the 'right one'.

Still, if it is going to happen, I will keep an open mind (though I will cringe every time he gets a soundbite) and hope that things go smoothly.

I also don't like the job he did in Toronto. He handed out some pretty terrible contracts there, and I don't think he built a franchise that is set to compete at any time. He accelerated that rebuild, and it still took a long time to get into the playoffs. Guess we will have to see what ends up happening here.

Outside of the Kessel deal does Burke really have a history of moving prospects for right now guys?

He moved established guys to get the pick for Sedin, moved Beauchemin to get Gardiner, kept the top prospects in Anaheim while taking them to contender status, reportedly refused to move Kadri/Gardiner for Luongo.

Seems like a lot if the fear about Burke canning the rebuild and going for win now is based off one single deal in which he got a 40 goal scorer back.

Yeah issue with Burke isn't his trades or trading prospects. His biggest issue has been drafting, much like Sutter he places too much emphasis on size and grit in the first round.

Outside of Kari he didn't draft very well in Toronto.

http://theleafsnation.com/2012/6/19/...t-pick-history

Seems to have a history of drafting 2nd overall in the first couple years with his new team though, would have happened with Toronto too.

Burke's hiring isn't a loss of confidence in Feaster, who was never meant to be anything more than the janitor to clean up Sutter's mess. That job is done - the patient has stabilized - so now it's time to bring in the builder.

I'm not sold on Burke (would have much preferred Jim Nill). He strikes me as impatient, and has a Sutteresque trait of stubbornly over-rating 'his' guys. But I don't hate the hiring either. It sure won't be a dull rebuild.
Suspect it will be more like:
-Ken King CEO of the entire org, focussing on all 4 teams and the new arena
-Brian Burke will be president of the Calgary Flames
-Feaster and the hockey ops team remain as is, now reporting to Burke instead of King

The guys on The Fan 960 are talking is if this is a done deal now. Interesting.

As for this potential hiring, I think it's awesome. Burke has brought success to every organization he has managed. Today is a good day.

I'm not in a position right now to go matching GM jobs to trades but I just don't like the thought of him having the reigns. Too many teams think that using the same old people on the management merry go round is the best thing to do, personally I disagree.

I can't see management giving Burke the job if his plans involve raiding our prospects. Everyone involved in the Flames recognizes we're in a rebuild, not a retool.

This i can understand if you don't want Burke in. His drafting has been bad if not drafting in the top 10. I really think they need to keep Weisbrod on.

As for the other posters that keep saying he trades prospects and picks for win now, its not true.

Also who cares if he is a "blow hard" or rubs you the wrong way. It's not like you have to hang out with him or he is going to invite you over for dinner.

I hope he starts in on Lowe right off the hop. Got to like the fact that the battle of Alberta will now be spearheaded by two men who absolutely hate eachother.

Watch us RFA offer Kadri and trade for Franson. Burkie loves raiding his former teams!

It would not bother me if his first words are something to the tune of "I only took this job so I can get under Lowe's skin"
