Are you seriously expecting a team to be a winner every year? If the guy gets us one Stanley Cup, he can screw up the next 5 years for all I care.

I guess I'm ok with him coming aboard, but what this team needs is some stability and patience.

one thing he is good at is overhyping defencemen... he may also take a run at Phaneuf in free agency if toronto can't come to terms with him...

If you compare what Burke has done with Vancouver, Anaheim, and Toronto to Feaster's work in Calgary and Tampa he looks awfully good in comparison. He got all three teams to the playoffs and two of the three were pretty good teams.

Agreed, has been discussed before and makes the most sense.

Burke would be hired to be a hockey GM, while Feaster and Ken King effectively would get promoted.

I would have to think that King would be overseeing the Flames sports enterprise and the future construction of the new arena/stadium project which will be a massive undertaking.

My only worry (if he slides into a GM-type capacity) is if he tries to make some sort of impression on the club early on and starts dealing some players that shouldn't be touched. Particularly Gaudreau.. I worry that Burke won't have the same patience/faith in the kid and will see other teams interest in his immense skill as an "opportunity" to make something out of nothing.

That's pretty much my one fear. I want Johnny to get the chance to make the team next year, and not be dealt before having that chance. There needs to be patience on Burke's part, if he's going to enter the fold.

Right now we need someone who can be patient, steady, and try to acquire as much as possible for our expiring aging assets. They should expect to make their impression on the team through drafting at this point, not wheeling and dealing and trying to make a blockbuster trade. It's all about gathering firepower right now, and letting the guys on the bench help develop it.

I prefer the idea of Burke in a Pres of Hockey Ops role, where he can make decisions on who's running things below him. I like the combo of Feaster (with Weisbrod perched on his shoulder) and Burke. It allows for continued ease on media relations, yet the infusion of some great hockey smarts to the club. Though they definitely should allow Burke some tampering privileges if he feels it's needed.

Interesting, will be curious to hear how his role is described and to whom Brian Burke will report to... (hopefully its directly to the ownership)

Assuming he has been hired...

I would imagine so, but it doesn't sound like King's been doing that bang-up of a job with the arena project. How many years has it been with no movement and the same "its just around the corner" messaging from him? I know people like to think the Flames always do things behind the scenes before releasing anything, but they seem to be spinning their wheels a little on this one.

Would love if the Flames were just trolling everyone and the press conference was to A) Announce the finalists for the goal song, B) Release the new jerseys, or C) Announce Kippers retirement.

Brian Burke seems an arrogant redneck. Good choice for Calgary IMO. Hope he gets the GM position and there is a job realignment.

I know I sure make 6 figures… I made $2 in July and $5 in August, and at least a buck back in April, and…

However, you all don't need to know how tall I am. The only thing you need to know is that I am two separate gorillas, and we are very unhappy about the banana supply.

(ObTopic: Not sold on Burke at all. Even less sold on Dowbiggin as the source. I still remember when he announced to the world, about 10 years ago, that the Flames were certain to lose Iginla as a UFA because they could not afford to give him a 10% raise on his QO.)
