Any idea if the dump station at Boulton is open yet? They've been working on the water system at the campaground, so no water in the loops or at the dump station (so they closed it off). It was supposed to be done by mid July but still was closed a few weeks ago. You had to fill up with water at Canyon. Not a big deal to go to Canyon, it's on the way anyway, just wondering if you knew.....?

No, sorry I don't.
I have a tiny trailer, and just get water off the fresh water trailer they have there and put it in my 5 Gallon blue jug thing. Usually only have to fill it once or twice over the weekend.

Depending on the weather I will camp into October.
I winterize after my last trip of the year which is normally the last week of October.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to fill water on the way to little bow? I am heading out there on the weekend (never been as I prefer real forests) and I noticed there is a algae warning, I would guess this means the water fill station will be closed down.

I would think that around the Vulcan area is your best bet.
Vulcan Municipal Campground
• Highway 23
• water is available
Or Champion:
Champion Community Park
• Hwy. 23; Main - 4 Street
• 20 kms (13 miles) from Vulcan, Alberta

Can you not fill up at home/rv storage place and just drive with a full fresh tank? I know it sounds like a PITA but its better than dragging a trailer around looking for a tap to fill up at. At that point atleast you know you have fresh drinkable water. Plus realisticaly you are pulling a trailer so any form of saving fuel by pulling with empty water is a joke. Years of tap searches at gas stations and random towns/sani stations have led me to doing this. Depending on where we go because most races are in the middle of nowhere and usually not held in any sort of campground (random dry camping). This is the best and easiest way next to going to a KOA with full hookups.

We are heading down to Montana for a few weeks. Splitting time between the Whitefish KOA and the West Glacier KOA so we can see which we prefer.
I am so pumped for some time off work.

I guess it depends on what you are pulling, how far, and how heavy you are to start with. I figure I lose about 20% in fuel economy between hauling with a full load of water vs. empty. So on a trip that is $100 each way that adds an extra $20 to each leg. (Assuming they may not also have dump facilities.) I've also heard stories about people's straps giving out on them on the highway under the stress of that extra weight.
It also depends on your vehicle's load ratings. I haven't done a precise measurement of my trailer's weight, but I know I am within a few hundred pounds of my GVW. Add 400 pounds of water and I could be over. The other consideration is my tires. Once again I have a couple hundred pounds to spare, but would be over with a tank full of water. I am also single axle so I only have 2 tires; anybody with 4 tires might have more room.
What I have done is made a 3 foot hose I can attach to my water jug. So if I ever find myself without water (or in a place with hand pumps for water) I can always put some into my tanks that way.

I'd like an update and hear what you have to think. I haven't been to either but am planning future trips.

Its not so much the weight as I get very decent towing mileage is more of a "I live in Mckenzie and the roads are stupid thin" type of thing. Getting around the corners with people parked everywhere is a bit daunting. I only use water for dishes, flushes and shower I never drink water from my tanks as I bring a jug of fresh with me.
