Chinese Restaurant Recommendations
Since my go-to Chinese restaurant has now closed for good, I have been searching (without much success) for a new spot.
So what's your go-to place?

Depends, do you want real Chinese or Western/Cantonese Chinese?

Harbour City.
I guess that would be classified as westernised Chinese.

Well, as bizarre as it sounds, the Ginger Beef in Harvest/Country Hills serves some of the most authentic Mandarin-style Chinese in the city. The Peking Duck is the best I've had outside of Beijing, and the pork is OH GOD so good. Expect a wait time though (they don't take reservations), the Chinese community knows how awesome it is and the place is often packed, unless you go early.

I did not go to Harbour City often, buy I would not really consider it westernised Chinese food. I would say that Silver Dragon is similar to Harbour City, but more expensive. I like Happy Valley, but have not been there since new management took over August 1.
I thought the squid at Pak Kut was killer. They have been closed over 20 years though.

Silver Dragon. The Peking duck is amazing. Everything else is top notch as well.

Personally, I am not a fan of the Ginger Beef franchise. Maybe that one in Harvest/Country Hills might be different though.

Lots of recommendations for Silver Dragon. I do like their food there, but I find their ginger beef there to be really gross. I know, ginger beef isn't what defines a good chinese restaurant, but still, if I'm having westernized chinese food, they better have some damn good ginger beef.

It really is. They renovated 2 years ago, threw out the buffet, and started over as a real legit Chinese place. It used to be a sack of half-warm garbage, but now it's as high-end as Chinese cuisine gets in Calgary.
Just absolutely delicious food, nothing bad to say about the place. Closest thing to what I've had in NE China.

They have a different menu for Gwai Lo. Ask them to recommend something authentic. We know the owner and they make some fantastic dishes for us.

What? Harbour City is gone for good? Where is Sam now?
I would second Peking Garden, but it is quite expensive. In the south, Wok with Chan at Heritage & Macleod is excellent. Silver Dragon for dim sum, but I always thought Harbour City was better for dinner.

If you are in Ottawa, try the best egg rolls in the world (made much differently than the crap we get here):
http://goldenpalacerestaurant.ca/
Our GP eggrolls are famous around the world.
Interesting; now available at Sens games:

Kwong says the success of this egg roll is thanks to a secret family recipe.

Yup, they've been closed since March now unfortunately.
That place was almost a weekly after the bar tradition for me during my 20s. Now that it's gone, there's a void that can't be filled with crappy, gangster infested, poor service U and Me. Maybe I just miss Sam more than the food.
