I get ya. I run slim and don't have any issues. I update once a week and it only takes a few minutes. Don't do nightlies anymore, that got to be a bit much.
What's wrong with the wireless AP? You cannot turn your phone into a AP?
You can run ASOP which is very very close to stock Google. I think the only difference is some apps, which you can easily grab from the store.

It will turn into an AP but nothing can connect to it.

I tried Slim again, but ended up going back to CM. Just love the simplicity and speed. And updating is a cinch.

Can you update CM without installing from scratch? ie downloading the whole new ROM , booting into recovery, etc.
I see an update is available, and if I can just apply it and not mess with setting my phone up again - even if it is just doing a full carbopn backup and redownloading apps from Google Play, it limits the time frames that I can do it and causes quite a bit of downtime.

I won't argue that CM seems to be a little faster and definitely more simplistic (not in a bad way) but I love Slim. I have a nexus and a cappy that I play around with to test out various ROMs. Currently running CM nightlies on both of those.
Is setting your phone to be an AP the same as setting it to be a hotspot? Works here on Slim on Telus. If you are Rogers and trying to do that it will not work regardless of the ROM you are on. It is an Android/Rogers issue. Basically Rogers disabled it.

You still need to download and flash but no need for anything else. Just flash the update and your phone should come back as before, no issues.
CM has rolled out their update tool just yet where you only have to download and flash the updates. SAves a bit of time but really only a minute or so if that.

Yes, that is what I mean.
It is strange that it doesn't work on Rogers, I am sure I did it before but maybe I am delusional.

So no wiping cache etc, just reboot, flash and your done?
I tend to move between ROMs more often than not, so I have grown to know these things as essential when flasding a ROM, but if you don't need to that makes me feel much less hostile about it.

AP/Hotspot works fine on my S4 that's on rogers and im pretty sure it worked on my N4 before I switched but i can't remember actually connecting to it on the N4. I connect regularly on my S4.

If you are just updating CM or another version of any ROM no wiping needed. Wiping cache doesn't hurt but it does not affect your apps or setup. Changing between ROMs I would do a full wipe for sure.
I use Titanium and can restore my phone in 5 or 10 minutes. Apps, settings, accounts wifi points. I have done it so many times I don't even think about it anymore. I also keep at least one Nandroid to go back if I don't care for the new ROM.

At some point Android 4.2 or 4.2.2 (can't remember which) added something in their data packets that carriers can pick up on that tells them what data rate you are using. Rogers, from what I under stand, blocked tethering on LTE only. If you switch to 3G it should work fine. All that script does that I posted is block or hide the info in the data packs.
I found the info somewhere awhile back, I'll see if I can dig it out again.

So...Motorola or LG? Who's going to make the next Nexus?
My sources say LG. But more and more is pointing towards Motorola.
I wouldn't mind either. Just no glass back this time.
