It doesn't have jail penalty for russians AT ALL. It clearly says 4000 — 5000 roubles fine (this is basically 150—200 USD, what I earn in one working day). Only foreigners who promote gay relationships can be jailed for 15 days and get kicked out of the country.

Another name to the list.
Have you read the law? Yes or no? Just answer.

Ha.

Yeah, this doesn't sound like it could possibly be interpreted to deem a gay couple kissing to be propoganda:

Quote:
Propaganda, according to the text of the bill can be expressed in the form of dissemination of information aimed at the formation of children of non-traditional sexual installations, as well as information that forms in their eyes attractiveness of non-traditional relationships and providing "a distorted view of the social equivalence of traditional and non-traditional relationships."

I feel sorry for Russians after reading that.

Talk about a country moving backwards. How sad.

And what happens when you can't afford to pay the fines?

Have you? You just provided a portion of text that confirms exactly what everyone here is saying.

Even if by some weird twist the judge will consider kissing on the street as propaganda, it still can not get you into jail no matter what. You simply can not get any jail time under this law as long, as you are russian citizen

It's $150 USD. You probably can't afford street clothes if you can't afford paying this fine.

Russian gay couple kissing in public = no jail time

Foreign gay couple kissing in public = jail time

Yeah.........that makes sense.

Are we talking about the same Russia? The average monthly salary in Russia is around $850.

Do you know what the word average means?

Here you go, an article that is supported by data.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/markadom...hat-you-think/

Nearly half of Russians earn less than USD$10,000 a year.

And you see no problem with that? This is a law that makes you proud to be Russian?

How sad.

He never said he was proud of the law, he is just pointing out the law.

He doesn't need to say it, he came charging into this thread defending this garbage law rather intensly. Stinks like national pride to me, but I will await his anwser to be sure.

How about a $150 fine for a black person kissing a white person?

Don't want to give kids the distorted view that a black and white non-traditional couple is equivalent to a traditional white and white couple.

It's ok, the black person can't go to jail as long as they are a Russian citizen, they just have to never be publicly seen as being in a relationship with a white person.

EDIT: Oh and using the Internet makes the fines much bigger, posting an update to my VK page that I'm in a relationship with a black girl could cost me $3000USD.

I looked through the original russian source of this article and failed to find data that would support what they have in english version. It could be that I missed it though.

What I did find though is this word document that shows that "poverty line" was 5993 roubles per month in 4Q 2011 (the very bottom-right figure). The fine for gay propaganda is 4000-5000 roubles. Let me guess, you are going to ask what if people who live in poverty can't afford fines for gay propaganda. Believe me or not, those people have way bigger problems than this.

You are making things up. It is a law against gay propaganda. While, in theory, some bribed/ill-intended judge can take anything as propaganda (and I have no problem admitting that as I'm not making things up for the sake of the argument), this is not the intention of the law. For the sake of it, there are legal gay clubs in Moscow and they are running fine.

Here you can take a look at the map of gay clubs in Moscow. And no, I will not get imprisoned for posting it here.

You're a joke. Another source for you to dismiss.

"the average household net-adjusted disposable income is estimated at 15286 USD a year"

http://www.oecdbetterlifeindex.org/c...an-federation/

For the average Russian household (not individual, household) this fine would eat up approximately 15% of monthly income.

So basically you're asking us to trust the Russian justice system. Seems like a bad idea.
