Very interesting question. This actually happened to PAOK just last week; they were eliminated and were allowed back in after the team that beat them were tossed out of the tournament.

I have a gut feeling that BVB will be in the group of death again this year.

Group A: Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Sociedad
Group B: Real Madrid, Juventus, Galatasaray, Copenhagen
Group C: Benfica, Paris St-Germain, Olympiakos, Anderlecht
Group D: Bayern Munich, CSKA Moscow, Manchester City, Viktoria Plzen
Group E: Chelsea, Schalke, Basel, Steaua Bucharest
Group F: Arsenal, Marseille, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli
Group G: Porto, Atletico Madrid, Zenit St Petersburg, Austria Vienna
Group H: Barcelona, AC Milan, Ajax, Celtic
Yeah, can't complain about United's group apart from one long away trip to Shakhtar. Chelsea did well also. City in a scrap for 2nd place and Arsenal will do well to qualify. Celtic? Bye bye. Will do well to make the Europa.
For the travel minded.

The things you learn. Never knew Real Sociedad were from San Sebastian.

Been there a couple of times ...... fantastic city. What got me was I "assumed" a Basque team wouldn't have Real in its name.

Those are some tough groups. United and Chelsea with sweetheart draws.
City should still go through as second seeds though. Outside of Bayern thats an okay draw for them.

I'm just happy we avoided the likes of Ludogorets Razgrad and Shakhter Karagandy. Oh wait, those are clubs in Tottenham's European draw...

cool group for United, definitely better than going to Romania again (yawn!). Will be a difficult group though, I don't see it as a "sweetheart draw". Sociedad could really surprise a lot of people, Donezk is a tough away fixture and Leverkusen isn't that bad either. Will be difficult, but a very attractive group.
Disappointed with Austria Viennas draw. No big names, but quality teams who will beat them comfortably. Would have wished them a Barcelona+CSKA+Piraus type of group.

don't count your chickens yet, there's still plenty of chance for Arsenal get either of those powerhouses in the KO rounds of the Europa League

Totally! Next time you go, check out Atari. My pal owns it. It shares the courtyard with that Cathedral that's at the foot of the big hill on the east side.
If I recall, in the past you had to go an hour or so west to Bilbao for good footy.
