I guess you're wrong again, he's definitely a racist. Need I go on? You seem to get proven wrong a lot. A nazi sympathiser and a defender of racists, must be AWESOME being you.
|
It's proven that the greatest racists are those that make a big deal out of it. Race had no part of this conversation until you brought it up. I can only imagine that you bring this up to victimize yourself and demonize me - just because I disagree with you on this issue. Maybe you have something against white people and want to dwell on very specific sentences taken out of their whole context.
The fact is many of you don't understand that in Russia, it's highly taboo to say you're gay. That's just the way it is. Trying to impose your opinion on them is also laughable knowing how protectionist they are, they're not even past racism, so getting them to accept gays is irrational. There's still a mentality in Russia to prove they can do things better than us.

If you want to prove he is a racist then you probably should go on and show some racist comments he has made.

Well then they better try harder because they aren't any better at hating gays as you are.

Come on you made that way too easy for me.

So you applaud Russia for persecuting those who love someone (that happens to share the same plumbing)...and say the only right someone has...is to liberty

Racism, like homophobia, revolves around discriminating against someone of a certain unchangeable characteristic. Therefore, quoting Ron Paul to prove your point to people who are accusing you of supporting discrimination does NOTHING for your point. That's why it was brought up. As for playing the victim, you've very clearly taken to doing it yourself. Try not to be a raging hypocrite, it hurts your point.

You're either sarcastic or daft. Sarcasm doesn't work so well on the Internet brother, so try not to come off as completely daft.

Okay guys, so what did we learn over the past few days in this thread? That we need to keep gay rights issues in the off topic forum, apparantly, because it got pretty ugly out here in the hockey forum.
There's honestly a bit of a different crowd that hangs out in the FOI forum that apparently doesn't visit the off topic forum, and I'm not just talking about that one dude, either.
Anyone else notice there's a bit of a different tone out here? Not very accepting or supportive of gay rights. And just to nip it in the bud, no I'm not talking about those who simply disagreed with having a patch or whatever, I'm talking about the tone of the discussion. It's definitely different out here.

Korzym was a long time troll on skyscraperpage as well.
Anyway, maybe Canada should announce just prior or during the games that Canada will offer asylum for gay Russians being persecuted by these draconian laws.

Yeah, this is weird. It's like a timewarp back to some threads from the mid-2000's.

Perhaps the opportunity to voice their generally disdained values and opinions under the guise of "its not our place to tell other people what to do" proved too tempting to resist. Those types of opportunities don't come along very often anymore.

I don't think the Olympics should be used for this sort of thing. I would rather see other political/financial moves likes embargos and such put on Russian exports. Athletes shouldn't be used for political battles.
Not so long ago Western countries were going through a similar thing, it will pass I believe because they will receive a lot of backlash from all this. It will be fast tracked because of the press and social media is much more advanced than before.
I don't agree with it and I think it is a bunch of crap. Human rights should be an essential need that everyone is entitled to. But I don't think that we can intervene with their internal laws.

Well, to be fair, who said anything about intervening in their internal laws? What about just taking a stand as a country? Canada's one of the top countries in the world in terms of LGBT rights, and personally I'd love to see us flaunt it a bit.

Yes, what was I thinking asking you to justify your completely illogical, hateful position.
Guess I should have known someone as ignorant and bigoted wouldn't be able to understand the very basic concept of being able to logically explain their stance on an issue.

Of course, I think it would be wonderful to have a visible display of solidarity with LGBT Russians who are facing immense discrimination in their own country. I actually would prefer it to be optional as opposed to mandatory. Why? Because I think it is more meaningful if an athlete actually decides to take a stand of their own volition. It doesn't need to be a rainbow flag on their jersey ...it can be as simple as colourful tape on their hockey gloves, stick or skates.

The international lowest common denominator for enacting change in places that do not respect human rights, whether its women or gays or oppression of any group, is constant and consistent public pressure. It's literally the least you can do.
What Russia is doing is wrong. The world should use every opportunity to express that, and it will be a sad day when 'brave and courageous' hockey players choose cashing out for gatorade and nike olympic ads over human rights. They don't need more money, and obviously a lobby of millionaires could get some attention.
If they start saying, 'I am here for sport and don't want to talk about this issue.' I will be disappointed. I'd be a lot more tolerant of them saying "I am just a dumb hockey player and I am afraid of being arrested.' At least that I could understand.

Actually you are asking me if I think it is right or wrong.
