It may be a racist comment but the title of the thread says racist dog owner - the comment doesn't mean the someone is a racist - there is a huge difference.

The difference between making a rude comment when some dude has his camera stuck in your face after you don't comply to his wishes and hating an entire population based on their race?
Seems to be a big difference. For all we know she could of said go back to russia to some rusky who pulled the same move.
The solution here was for buddy to keep walking if the dogs posed no harm to him and his entourage - the lady should of been a little more tactful in her remarks.
Everyone is focused on the one comment which was uncalled for - but buddy went and took a video of her, posted it online and decided to tell the world this lady was a racist. ballsy move bro.

Lol and if she told him to go back to Russia she'd still be a racist. Do you not understand how that sounds? You can be racist to Russians as well.
The solution would be for the lady to either put the dog on the leash or tell him to eff off without using racist remarks.
By your criteria someone who told the ni***** to go to the back of the bus aren't racist either.

I think I get where Mel was going. For example, I really don't like my one neighbour, who happens to be from India. (Her husband is really nice though.) The reasons I don't like her have nothing to do with race, and everything to do with her being a bit of a bitch. (Once again her husband with his very broken English has appologized to me a couple of times for the way she has spoken to me.)
Let's say one day she pushes the wrong buttons and I snap back. However instead of calling her a bitch, I use a racial slur. Does that one comment make me a racist?

Not necessarily agreeing with mel, and correct me if I'm wrong but I don't remember her using any derogatory names. Nice job of falsely trying to make it seem like what she said was worse than it actually was.

That is a good question.
I think the better question is why would you go to a "racial slur" and not just call her a bitch. If she is from England and white, you would call her a derogatory term against people from England? If she is a from England but Indian heritage what derogatory term would you use then?
There are a large number of ways to insult people, but she jumped to a race related one right off the bat. I mean buddy didn't have an accent, he sounded as Canadian as me, hell he is probably born here, which I am not.

My point is making a racial slur doesn't make you a racist. She may very well be a racist, I don't know her, neither do you and neither did Mr. Dog Police. People don't like to be told what to do - so when you decide to play Dog Police you are going to get a reaction out of someone - some people will comply, some people will flip you the bird - but when you escalate the situation with a camera in your face, people may lose judgment and say something to really and try hurt you - and that could cross some boundaries - She had the right to be there, so did the dog and so did Mr. Dog Police - but I really don't see the point in making what appears to be a harmless situation into a confrontation - which is what he did - So basically we had a couple of real winners cross paths and now her face is all over the internet.

Some people don't think - and use the worst possible way to hurt someones feelings - the ole G F yourself isn't as powerful is getting personal like using a racial slur

Also if i was in a foreign country where i was the minority and someone told me to go back to Canada - I would find that funny, but I am not a hypersensitive overly politically correct ideolog.

I guess that's the disconnect on my end, Ken. For me, the example you gave of calling the neighbour a racial slur dies in fact make that person racist. Now, certainly people can be varying degrees of racist, but o think anyone who calls anyone anything racist is a racist to done degree, no matter how small.

I don't think it necessarily makes one a racist. it's just a cheap, easy shot that probably hurts more because it has so much baggage and can't be changed.
If someone called me a bitch, it might bother me as it would hurt my feelings. But if someone of another race called me a white bitch, that just adds lots of variables and it would definitely hurt more. And it's easier to say than " white bitch based on the negative stereotype", which is probably what the person would mean.
So this means you're going to quit being aggravated by vegetarianism , flameswin? Just kidding. Stuff like that stopped bugging me a long time ago . It's all good

I disagree i have friends of all shapes, colors, sizes and preferences - if i lose it and say something stupid to get arise or to hurt someone that involves reference to a persons race - I am not a racist...I'm a dumb moron... If i was a racist I wouldn't have a good asian friend, afro friend, indian friend ect... Most racists stick closely in their racial group and avoid people of other races and are constantly on the attack

lol, this is by far the best post in this thread.
Mel, that rush of air you keep feeling when you open this thread is the point flying past you, over and over again.

Of course it does. You're using a racial slur to put down a person. Racial slurs when used as insults are meant to make the person feel inferior.
If you said "I really dislike that Indian chick next door" then no it wouldn't make you racist.
If you said "god I hope that dumb kurry smelling Indian would just leave to India already" then I think it would make you a racist.
If you use a racial slur to insult someone chances are you're a racist.

No, the solution was to put the dogs on the leash after being asked. There's literally no other correct solution to this that I will concede. One person was breaking a bylaw, the other was just asking for her to stop. If she didn't want to comply, that's her problem and doesn't give her free-range to be a bitch (racist or not) if she gets videotaped.

The "go back to China" comment doesn't necessarily make her a racist. Rather, it could make her a xenophobe which is almost just as bad and certainly just as ignorant. Also, she owns a dog and has presumably lived in the city for quite some time, and she doesn't know the offleash bylaws? So, I don't know if she's racist but she's certainly stupid.
